I tried zinc lozenges for the a cold for the first time. They
turned it into something weird. They seem to have suppressed the
stuffy-nose part to some degree, but the sore throat that for
me usually disappears after the first day persisted to the point where
I finally went to a doctor to make sure I didn't also have
strep throat. Now I have watery eyes to the extent that I wonder if
it's safe for me to drive. Bottom line: next time I'll pass on
the zinc lozenges.

The sequel: I had mucus oozing from my eyes all day, which was
day six of the cold. When I woke up this morning, there was a
film of mucus over my eyes. A half-hour coughing fit was needed
to cleanse the mucus from my throat. Then there was nausea and
vomiting. Fortunately this was before breakfast, so all I puked
up was Gatorade. I had a fever of 101. So I slept a couple of
more hours. Five hours later my fever is gone, as is the sore
throat, coughing and most of the nasal congestion. So...do I owe
this rather spectacular finale of my cold to zinc lozenges?
