The wife had a terrible neck sprain 5 days back.
Terrible, Unbearable pain the first day - the doc didn't do any
X-Rays or Scans etc. Just asked my wife to squeeze the doctors hands
with her hands.
And prescribed Robaxin and also asked her to take lots of Ibuprofen
(upto
maximum of 3200 mg per day). At night, my wife couldn't sleep, so I
phoned
up the consulting nurse service & they asked her to take Percocet
(which we
had left over from some older treatment). After 5 days, pain is
reduced, but
is still there. Wife takes around 1 percocet per day & around 2
Ibuprofens
& 1 Tylenol per day. Plus the Robaxin twice a day. Going to visit the
doctor again on Monday. Also doing some heat treatment couple of times
a day.
Just wanted to check a couple of things.
1) Is this rate of recovery normal?
2) Does the Robaxin help the recovery or is it just to reduce the
pain?
3) Likewise the ibuprofen - does it help the recovery or only to
control the pain? Also the heat treatment - does it help the recovery?
What else can be done for faster recovery?
Wife is 35 years old - also today she has had occasional headaches - is
this also because of the neck sprain?
Also, the pain killers seem to have damaged the stomach - she has some
stomach ache today - what can be done to help with this?

Just to clarify the 2-4 Ibuprofens she takes every day is 200 mg
tablets.

Sprain or strain?
A strain is a muscle tear (or rupture).
