I have an extreme sentitivity to table salt. I was informed by two people
that have some medical training that I may need to take a diuretic. Which
is the safest diuretic that has the lowest number of serious side effects?
My research has showed Furosemide is the best selling diurectic but is it
the safest one to take? Thanks in advance for your help.

You know, I injured my arm. I said, "It hurts when I go like this." She
said, "Well, don't do that."
If you are "extremely sensitive to table salt," don't eat table salt. You
don't to put it on your food.

Well, talk to your doctor who can examine you and get full history and do
any needed testing.

The one that your doctor determines is the best one for you, if you need
one.

Thank your doctor at your visit.
Seriously, your doctor is the one who should be talking to.

Jeff,
It takes about three weeks to get a doctor's appointment. Some famous
person once said something like this--"You are your own best doctor"
a teacher added--"since you know yourself better than anyone else".
I have a book called "The Pill Book" which makes it easy to research
various drugs". I like other people's help from time to time.

Gee, I hope you have one.

The Pill Book may be good to help you understand the drugs that you are
prescribed, but it is not a guide to prescribing drugs. For that you need to
have courses in laboratory medicine (which interpretation of laboratory
tests), physical examination, physiology, pathology, anatomy, cardiology,
nephrology, pharmacology, etc.
Who has the experience for this? Your doctor.
And to get said pills, where do you go? Your doctor. You can't get
prescription drugs without seeing your doctor.
Avoid salt and see your doctor.
We can't diagnose you over the net.

Jeff,
I understand. I have read reports indicating that doctors get medical
journals that have full page advertisements for various prescription
drugs. People are influenced by ads--otherwise companies would not spend
millions of dollars per year advertising products. I suspect that doctors
also influenced by those ads.

True. But they are also influenced by their four years of medical school, 3+
years of residency, their experience after residency in taking care of
patients.

Jeff,
Good point. I trust my doctor. However, I do read everything I can find
about any medications that she prescribes for me. You probably do the same
thing. It does not mean that I don't trust her. She simply does not have
the time to spend 30 more minutes telling me about the medications.
