Hello
An elderly male has the above stated fluid retention.  He is treated
at the acute hospital and goes home after three days with the ascities
and scrotal swelling resolved.  His diagnosis is CHF but he does have
a history of "being a heavy drinker" for most of his adult life.  He
has a history of not taking care of himself and his family refuses to
get involved with his care anymore.  Does ascities in CHF carry a very
poor prognosis as it does in cirrhosis?  How would one test for
Cardiomyopathy?
Thank you for any help you can give

Is this an actual clinical question, or is this a homework question you
are looking for help with?

lol.... Can we start a pool on this one?

Oh, wait, that'll be no fun.  Everyone will bet the same way.

This is a true to life situation.  He is a person I took care of as a
nurse and am not sure if he is terminal or not.

It sounds like his liver is shot as well as his heart.

You need a better library..... something beyond
the Med-Surg textbook.
Second quarter nursing student?
Hopefully this homework isn't due
in the morning.

The patient is ready to go.
