Really scared, drank alcohol while pregnant

Scared!!!

I found out I was pregnant relatively early, on the 22nd day after
conception.

What really worries me is that I had three drinking episodes. I had
the 4 glasses of wine on the 14th day of  pregnancy, 4 glasses on the
17th, and another three glasses on the 18th. In all three instances I
consumed those drinks while dinning. No more Alcohol after I found
out.

Could anybody give me some advice as to what the worst case scenario
for my baby would be?. I've deeply  regretted having those drinking
episodes, but my real worry is that I read on the Internet that as
even one or two drinks a day could result in significant structural
damage.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation

Check the 'fact sheets' on this site, then look around from there:
http://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/fas/factsheets.htm

You don't appear to be in the 'risk drinking' category, but I'm not a
doctor. You should talk to yours. I don't know if there's any way to
tell if the drinking you did (which, to me, doesn't sound like much)
has had a negative effect. Those fact sheets don't say much that is
specific.

Now you know and you're not drinking - that's a good thing. Drinking
during pregnancy can have significant effects, but keep in mind that
what you've had isn't that much and the chances of it being
significant are very small - not zero, but very small. Your doctor is
the one to talk to about this, however. There may be other risk
factors involved.

Highly unlikely that this sort of drinking, taken with food, could cause any
problems. Certainly no need to worry about FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome).

Relax. Take lots of folic acid.

Please seek medical advice. The last place you should look to for advice
on something like that is Usenet.

Since you care for your baby, you should particularly avoid
talk.abortion, where people lie in every way possible to dehumanize
unborn babies. They would even chastise you for caring... if they had
any intellectual honesty, that is.

If you had a modicum of even *basic honesty, you wouldn't lie through your
teeth the way you did in your second paragraph. It is complete bullshit, and
you are well aware of it.

Fucktards like you have to lie and beat up strawmen because all you're
capable of is yapping in circles, creating fictitous caricatures about
people you aren't competent enough to understand, and take our words out of
context to try to make some sort of point.

Your unbridled stupidity and dishonesty notwithstanding, though, I would
agree fully with your first paragraph.

"Nails", is that any way to address a visitor? No one will ever take
you seriously if you continue to present yourself like a cross-dressing
pervert from the projects. You owe "Sergeant America" an apology.

Projecting again, sheep-shagger?

Tell me: How is it that "Sergeant America" is posting from New Zealand?

They meant for the duration of the pregnancy.

Your conscientiousness shows me your child will have no problems whatsoever
since you decided to stop drinking.
Johnny - 10 Feb 2005 11:17 GMT
What is all this about talk to your doctor?
I mean, will he charge a fee?
Why do people act as if someone needs to go to a doctor when there seems to
be no problem at all?
I think you are doing very well, since you stopped drinking after you
learned of your pregnancy.
I see no problem at all.
Congratulations.

Talk to your doctor.  A few drinks are unlikely to have any noticible
effect.  Fetal-Alchohol Syndrome is an issue when women have six
drinks a day for months at a stretch.

Any alcohol can be dangerous, especially early in the pregnancy

"Although many women are aware that heavy drinking during pregnancy can
cause birth defects, many do not realize that moderate-or even
light-drinking also may harm the fetus.

In fact, no level of alcohol use during pregnancy has been proven
safe."

All alcohol should be avoided when pregnant.

"When a pregnant woman drinks, alcohol passes swiftly through the
placenta to her baby. In the unborn baby's immature body, alcohol is
broken down much more slowly than in an adult's body. As a result,
the alcohol level of the baby's blood can be even higher and can
remain elevated longer than the level in the mother's blood. This
sometimes causes the baby to suffer lifelong damage."
http://www.marchofdimes.com/professionals/681_1170.asp

"During pregnancy, how much alcohol is too much?
No level of drinking has been proven safe. The full pattern of FAS
usually occurs in offspring of chronic alcohol abusers, most often in
women who drink four to five or more drinks daily. However, it has
occurred in women who drink less. ARBD and ARND can occur in babies of
women who drink moderately or lightly during pregnancy.

Researchers are taking a closer look at the more subtle effects of
moderate and light drinking during pregnancy. A 2001 study by
researchers at Wayne State University in Detroit found that 6- and
7-year-old children of mothers who had as little as one drink a week
during pregnancy were more likely than children of non-drinkers to have
behavior problems, such as aggressive and delinquent behaviors. These
researchers found that children whose mothers drank any alcohol during
pregnancy were more than three times as likely as unexposed children to
demonstrate delinquent behaviors."

Thank you all for answering to my question. But there is another
serious reason I'm still very concerned. I recentrlly foynd out that
.." In the embryonic stage: the third postconception week of human
pregnancy is considered the critical period for teratogenic actions of
alcohol to produce the most severe and characteristic features of FAS.
Drinking an average of 3 drinks/daily during the period following
conception and just before pregnancy is confirmed, increases the risk
of having a FAS child. Occasional drinking during this period did not
increase risk."

http://www.digitalism.org/hst/fetal.html

What really worries me is that I had three drinking episodes. I had
the 4 glasses of wine on the 14th day of pregnancy, 4 glasses on the
17th, and another three glasses on the 18th, i.e. all within this
‘critical period".

Any comments?

I already told you what would be the worst thing for the child.
Nothing you mentioned yet is sufficient reason for an abortion.
Seems to me you are somehow wanting to abort this child.
Tell us your situation.
Are you single carrying a married man's child?
Are you single carrying the child of someone you do not want to marry?
What is the case here?

worried. Thanks again for your response, Johny

I can see your worried and can understand how you are feeling but Im sure
your baby will be fine.

Best thing for you to do is to stop stressing, try to be calm and relaxed
as this is what your baby needs is to have a good environment no stress
included, I know this is easier said than done, but your baby will be fine,
just keep up your healthy food habits and get enough rest and look after
yourself and baby will be fine you will see.

yup... tis obvious you're new to it...

your 'newsgroups' in outlook express are part of a big thing called "usenet"

Before you call others idiots it might pay to learn a little about what
you're actually doing/using.

that too is evident. in fact, read from the header of your posy

"X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1437"

>     It says nothing about Usenet anywhere.

indeed, and why would it?

the fact is that you are and have been posting to usenet newsgroups.

the fact that you fefused to learn of these things, while concurrently
misrepresenting them, defines you clearly.

i doubt tyou will like the definition.

What a fuckwit you are, whining about someone not doing things with the
correct protocol. Instead of just informing them what you believe was
wrong and being done with it you gotta' waste all those readers time
with your whining.

perhaps, because she is a female, you're treating her with the same

have you considered that you might have a problem with women?

dont you go and find someone to say these things to face to face and see how

that sugests you read too huriedly, as i suggested, or that you are,

I am treating her with no disregard whatsoever.
What makes you who posted something about supporting other women's right to
have an abortion think that she is feeling the disregard that you are
feeling?

> have you considered that you might have a problem with women?

No.
Wanna no why?
Because I treat them nicely.
You, on the other hand, stand for the right to make them whores.

to do that to women often.

you should, i think.

So, again, you are regarding the First Amendment a divine right.
Read the First Amendment.
You are unfamiliar with the First Amendment?

None whatsoever.
You are bickering.

Your mind thinks that what I post is treating people as if they have no mind
of their own?
Why do you make up invalid and unproveable statements?
I do not recommend a woman's right to choose because it opens up a whole
pandora's box of abuse of women and abuse of men who love them.

>>> have you considered that you might have a problem with women?

Why do you want to project your problem onto me?
You who recommends abortion has the problem with women, in reality.
If you had no problem with them you would not like them to have abortions.
Why can't you get along with pregnant women?
I know why.
Because you want them to abort their pregnancies.
Ur no better than any whoremonger with that attitude - a political weakling
who will not stand up for pregnant women.

the first amendment has nothing to do with your representing the views

you would have come across as less dishonest and far less misogynist by
simply correcting yourself.

My words are my words.

You would come off as having some understanding if you would observe the
First Amendment instead of conjuring up some BS directed toward me as if I
care nothing for the lady who is pregnant.

Your lies carry NO weight.
I have deviated none in this matter, yet you came in and posted something
about how you support other women's right to choose abortion.
Well, bucko, women do not need to abort any more.
Did you know that?
Women can carry their babies to term and the men who got them pregnant will
be sadlded with the cost of caring for them.

You are the person who shoudl be ashamed of yourself.
