I had two prostate biopsies last year. Both showed some abnormal
(non-cancerous) cells in a small section of the prostate. Now my
urologist wants to continue with biopsies every 6-8 months. Is this
a routine approach?
I am 63 with a PSA around 3.0 . I showed a spike of 0.7 about two years
ago that prompted the first biopsy.
Thanks....

Yes. Your biopsies didn't show cancer, but that means one of three things
a) you don't have prostate cancer
b) you don't have prostate cancer but the "abnormal" cells (dysplastic cells
I bet) are on the verge of becoming cancerous, maybe within 6-8 months
c) you do have prostate cancer but the biopsies missed it
Prostate biopsies are no fun. Prostate cancer even less so, however.
