Hi
I am working as an opththalmologist in a hospital in India and planning
to move to USA.
I understand that in USA it is difficult for a foreign grad to get
residency in ophthalmolgy. Will that factor be offset by my education
and experience? (considering I am already an ophtahlmologist)

My education:
MBBS (equivalent of MD in US)
D.O. (ophthalmology)
M.S. (ophthalmology)
Please let me know what are my chances?

Thanks a lot,
-Ophthal

Dear Opthal,

Your chances are virtually zero, as you would need to be in top 5-10%
of the boards to qualify for even the least desirable primary care
spots in the country. Opthalmology is one of the most competitive
fields in the States, and I doubt any residency program would even
bother looking over your application, regardless of your education,
scores, or recommendations.

Sorry.

Hi Joseph
Thanks for your reply. Knowing the reality I should prepare myself for
some compromises I guess.
Could you please also respond to another message I had posted?
(attached below)
I will appreciate that a lot.

Thanks again
