I have been diagnosed as having a degenerative disc with a pinched
nerve.  My right leg has become weak causing it to buckle. I have
fallen a few times.
I am doing physical therapy, mainly, exercises such as straight leg
raises, , knee -to-chest stretches,etc. for about 10 days.

I want to  add some strengthening exercises using 1 pound ankle
weights.  Will my right leg get back to normal- no weakness, no
buckling, no need to slowly step up or down?
How long does this rehabilitation usually take?

Thanks

Allan

Of course you are exercising with the prescription and supervision of a
physical therapist. At this stage in your rehabilitation you should not
be  doing exercises which have not been prescribed by him or her. When
it is appropriate your physical therapist will advice on adding
weights. Straight leg raises are bad enough for your problem; with
weights would be disastrous.
