Hello,

My 71 year old dad just had his annual checkup and found out that his
PSA level is 11.23 ng/ml. Any ideas what causes it to shoot up? Is this
an indication of prostate cancer?

Thanks.

Prostate cancer would certainly be one consideration. He should see a
urologist. Time for, at least, a rectal exam, and possibly an ultrasound of
the prostate.

PSA values are increased in prostate carcinoma, benign prostatic
hypertrophy (BHP), following prostate examination/after the prostate is
poked and felt by the GP gloved finger and also sexual intercourse bumps it
up a little, too.
