Hi,
I'd posted about a month ago about some complications from antibiotics I was
on when I was hospitalized with Diverticulitis (this is a new diagnosis...
only a month old and it's been tough to live with!) The thrush never really
went away, no matter what meds my doc put me on so he had me discontinue the
oral antifungals. Now I'm eating yogurt and when I can't eat the yogurt,
they've got me on acidophilus supplements.
Well, I just got royally slapped with the flu! I needed the flu like I need
another tattoo! I hate this! Chills, fever, body aches (feels like a mack
truck hit me!) sinus congestion, coughing... and as every year when I get
the flu, I get a mild form of some respiratory infection. This year though
it's worse. I woke up last night feeling like I was being smothered!
Here's what I've done so far:
1) Tylenol every 4 to 6 hours
2) Cough syrup (making sure it doesn't contain the active ingredient of
acetominophen)
3) Lots of fluids
4) steam baths until I can contact my doctor to call in a prescription for
my inhaler. I don't believe I've reached that point just yet but I want it
just in case.
5) frequent rest periods between activities. I have 3 kids so I can't afford
to just lie in bed for a day to heal.
6) Humidifier/vaporizer going 24/7
7) lots and lots and lots and lots of handwashing.
8) Warm baths with epsom salts (I'm not sure why but it's really soothing!)
9) keeping warm, and wearing layers

Does anyone have any other suggestions? Am I missing something? I'm going to
try and stay down today as much as possible so I'll have the energy to go to
work tomorrow night.... I figure that if I'm not feeling better by tomorrow
anyway, I'll be going to the doctor for a throat culture (even though my
throat isn't sore, I may still have something brewing back there! Sometimes
I end up with strep without showing symptoms!) and for him to just in
general check me out to make sure I don't need antibiotics (again! *groan*)
Anyway.... Thanks in advance!

The hand washing is good, because it may prevent your kids from getting
sick. But the hand-washing is to prevent you from getting sick.

Call your doctor NOW. There are medications you can take that will speed
recovery if you take them right away.
