Hello:

I understand that there is a Creatinine Blood Test, and also a Creatinine
Urine Test.

Might someone please explain when each is used, and what each determines ?

e.g.,

when would one test be used rather than the other ?

what parameters, and their significance, might one show that the other
wouldn't ?

any other differences, etc. ?

Much thanks,
Bob

Bob,  the serum creatinine is used as a measure of kidney function,
with higher levels implying reduced kidney function.  It is somewhat
dependent on muscle mass, so the so-called normal range has to be
viewed with this in mind.  The urine creatinine is measured when one
wants to compare other chemicals in the urine to estimated total
urinary output, or in cases in which one is measuring the creatinine
clearance, a somewhat tedious test that is supposed to be a refinement
of the serum creatinine.  H2
