I am 58 years old. At birth, I had an umbilical hernia, which was repaired
at birth (so I have a vertical scar and no belly button -- no inconvenience
at all). In 1988, I got an inguinal hernia and it was repaired.
Fast forward to now. I have bowel problems (constipation) and that has been
a struggle.
Three nights ago, after a bm, I suddenly got terrible pain; it basically
felt like pulled/torn abdominal muscles. The next day it was pretty much
gone. But then the same thing after a bm. Pain and gone the next day
(today). After a bm today no pain at all.
But, I have noticed a little outpouching near the umbilical hernia scar. But
it may have always been there (I have been looking at it because I am
suspicious of a hernia). It does seem to be more pronounced late in the day.
Is there some way for me to determine if it is an abdominal hernia? If so, I
assume it is probably an incisional hernia?? Also, if that is the case, is
it safe to let it go for a long time? (I know nothing is strangulated and if
it is a hernia it must be the type where it can be recessed --- forgot the
terminology, but basically the pouch is reduced in the morning).

Yeah, go talk to your primary care doctor.
I really doubt your pain while you pooped had anything to do with this, but
we can't examine you and we don't know your full medical history. Your doc
does.

Good questions for your doc.
