Trouble breathing/Bloated stomach

A male friend of mine who is 35yrs old is having a rough time with the
feeling of not being able to catch his breath. He was a smoker of 10yrs and
quit 5mths ago because he felt out of breath and very bloated in his stomach
plus the feeling of pressure and can't burp. His stomach looks very round
and hard to the touch.

He is probably 10lbs overweight..so he is not obese or anything. He does not
experience any pain. Food seems to trigger the episodes of bloatedness and
out of breath....but not always. It's hard to tell if his diet is causing
this. He is starting to think it's something else. He is the most
comfortable in the lying down position. His diet is the pits..very high fat
greasy foods no veggies etc..I'm more concerned about the breathing as to
what this could be.

Thanks for any info.

Yeah, the difficulty breathing would definitely be the thing to worry about.
What it could be would be anyone's guess.  If you're his friend, convince
him to see a doctor about it.  At his age, weight, etc, it's definitely not
right.

Tumor.

Absolutely. Trouble breathing is serious. Bloating could be as simple as
developing lactose intolerance.

I wouldn't dare guess as to what his problem is, but it's not
necessarily as serious of a problem as others are indicating. I'm merely
pointing out a possibility that isn't as scary as things like tumors, so
don't delay proper medical care based on this suggestion. Since he was a
smoker and is having respiratory troubles he should definitely have a
formal assessment.

"Food seems to trigger the episodes of bloatedness and out of breath",
this is something that occurs with some people who have gastroesophageal
reflux disease.

GE reflux wouldn't be near the top my list of possibilities in a
patient with bloating and dyspnea.

Got him to go to a doctor tonight. Doc listened to heart, took blood
pressure, asked a ton of questions. The blood pressure was 174/90 so it was
high. Tomorrow he goes for complete blood tests including all usual fasting
stuff. Oh and ECG. I'm glad for all this. The doctor said to check on blood
pressure over the next 7-10 days at the local drug store in house machines,
jot the numbers down, then come back. Will be going sooner if the blood
tests show something. He also said if you still have trouble breathing he
will send him for a lung function test.

Just curious though....when he first started examining him he took the tips
of his fingers and place them on the forehead area, than on the cheek area,
than the neck gland area. While doing this he kept asking my friend if he
felt any pain. What was that all about? More so the facial stuff than the
neck.

Thanks so much to all for your replies thus far. I really appreciated it.

Sounds like he was checking for sinus tenderness and cervical
lymphadenopathy, which would be part of a routine head and neck exam.

Sounds like what I have which is Irritible bowel syndrom (IBS) When I get
bloated I have breathing
trouble. Its supposed to be caused by colon spasms. Or it could be Celiac
disease
