The climate here is already dry and when I use Rhinocosrt, it leads to
nose bleed.

I had been doing well w/o any spray for 2 1/2 months but recently,
after going to a class, by the 3rd class day, I was getting throat
infection and so I started using Rhinocort again just to recover from
that. Of course, I had a bit of nose bleed the next day. So I stop
using it but then I had to to prevent infection from lingering...

Is there any thing I can do to counter hat dryness in nose sot hat I
won't have nose bleed?

You might not like it but snorting Ozynol or Neo-sporin will
do the job.  And if it *is* dry where you live, and you don't have
a dust mite allergy, use a humidifier in your home.  You might
not need the Ozynol.

I can't use himuidifier.  Where I used to live, in one winter, due to
the cold front, it was so dry inside the townhouse and I used
humidfier and it was bad news. Mine is not allergic rhinitis but I
need prevention of mold forming.  Moisture wil form mold. .

I have been sick with flu and can only check the response. I have
never used Ozynol? What is it?>

It's like Polysporin, it's an antibacterial gel or cream.
Often recommended for nose bleeds due to dryness.
Just put some on your finger, but not too much, and snort it.

Thanks. How often should I use it? Once a day, twice a day or
whenever my nose feels really dry which happens when I use Rhinocort?

Sorry I missed the start of this :-(

Amanda,

How much rhinocort do you use? Perhaps you can use less? For example,
when I was using Rhinocort I tended to have one spray per nostril
every 2-3 days.

Rhinocort on its own, never mind with a dry climate, can cause
nosebleeds because it is a steroid and can damage the mucous membranes
inside the nose.

Well, when I first started using it in 2002 Spring, I used (In
Houston) as the doctor told me 2 sprays each nostril morning and
night. I also used Astelin 2 sprays each nostril 1 hours after
Rhinocort.
I did that for about 2 months.

I stopped using it summer.

In fall, around October, I started using again twice a day when I was
having throat infection. Other time, just once a day or once every
other day and also one spray per nostril depending on ..

I contiued that way till, ie used as needed  or use once every 3 days
or so.- I couls tell depending on how I feel - till wineetr 2003 when
I stopped completely because of dryness. Also, it seems that I didn't
need it

Now, in 2004 about a month ago, I felt that I needed to use it when I
started going to a  classroom and started getting scrathy throat but
as soon as I started using, the nose bleed within 24 hours (I have the
heater on all day because my old condo unit is just cold)

I have been using it that way lately.

I see.  Thanks for the info.

I guess that rules out my  plan to move backt o houston where I would
have to use Rhinocort more...

What can happen as the damage to mucous membrane esclates in ... my
life time?
