Hi,
I am curious about starting salaries, for Physicians at the start of
their career(that is, after residency), at University Medical centers.
In the field of Internal Medicine.
For instance Physicians who get their first job, after finishing their
Internal Medicine residencies, at places like University of Washington
Medical Center or University of Iowa Medical Center .
I found some salary figures at the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of
Labor Statistics website.
http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos074.htm
But they seem to be median compensation (or mid career compensation)
and do not distinguish between University positons, or Private
Practice etc.

At many state university hospitals (most? all? I don't know), salaries are a
matter of public record and the university has to publish or make available
everyone's salary. I don't know how you would actually get that information
but I would start with a call to a reference librarian.

Thanks Harry, Univ Reference Librarian sounds like a good idea.

The answer might surprise you: In generally-- they make less than or about
to be the national average in his/her specialty. In another word, in private
practice setting, if you are doing reasonably well, you will make more than
those working in major university teaching hospital as attending/clinical
assistant professor. It is not the best working environment in major
teaching hospitals.
