I am taking Toprol XL.  I was taking 50 mg, which was fine, then
stepped up to 100 mg about a week ago.  Am noticing definite
tiredness, a little dizziness, need more sleep.  Dreams also seem more
intense.

Can anyone tell me how long it takes for the body to acclimate?  Two
weeks?  A month?

Thanks,
CJ

Possibly never.  Would suggest you inform your doctor about your symptoms.

You are welcome.

Agree with Dr. Chung. Tell your doc so that perhaps you can get on a
different beta blocker. We all react differently, thus there are different
meds that do basically the same thing.

Good luck.

CJ,

It would be interesting to hear the indication for putting you on
Toprol (metoprolol). There are several different beta-blockers and
they might be tolerated differently by different patients. Metoprolol
is moderately/highly lipophilic and therefore might enter your CNS
easier than some of the other beta-blockers. However, there is no
clear relation between these properties and adverse effects. You
should discuss your problems with your doctor so that proper action
can be made.

Moreover, why did he step up to 100 mg?  If XL is usually prescribed
for BP, agina, or MI, why isn't he seeing his doc about this?  If none
of these indications then what?  For migraine or performance anxiety
I'd guess 50 mg would be sufficient.
