insights.
I am approaching my fourth week or recovery, having had several (9)
large polyps removed from my colon, one of which was precancerous.
I'm now on 300mg of ferrous gluconate 3x daily, and while I am feeling
better than before, I STILL get extremely tired and require far too much
sleep every day. Some days are better than others. But after some days,
especially weekends, where I have simply not slept during the day, and
done nothing more than hang out with my kids, maybe do a little
paperwork, I seem to regress and the following day I can do little more
than get up for a few hours at a time, eat, etc. then go back to bed.
Except for being up and not sleeping, I'm certainly not doing anything
physical like walking or jogging-nothing except staying on my feet.
At the height of my illness my hemoglobin was less than half the lower
normal limit, and I had no measurable level of iron in the bloodwork. My
red blood cells exhibited charateristic indicators of iron deficiency
like small size, etc. My doctor estimated that I had lost 1.5 x my total
blood volume over the course of the ailment (7-9liters) from the last
normal blood work to just before the colonoscopy.
My question is just how long am I going to be like this, and is there
anything else I should be doing to get my hemoglobin and iron levels
back to normal.
Thank you

Have you had repeat blood work showing that your blood counts
are improving and that you are making new red blood cells?

Not yet, but I will, althought I'm sure things are moving along as I am
certainly feeling better. I was just curious as to how long it will be,
assuming that everything is ok, and what else I should be doing besides
taking iron supplements daily.
