Hi people,
4 days ago I started noticing some pain in my left wrist. The pain
occurs when I completely stretch out my arm (like picking up an object
on the floor or raising my hands above my head). Most of the time when
my arm is not stretched I feel no pain at all. But when I stretch it
too much I feel a very sharp pain in the wrist region. The exact
location of the pain is on the inner surface of the forearm, at the
wrist level, about in line with the ring finger. When I stretch my arm
too quickly (like when I tried swimming), I can feel a very intense
pain radiating on the forearm and on the pinky and ring fingers. This
leads me to beleive I have a pinched ulnar nerve in the wrist region.
I first noticed the pain a day after I took a bad fall while skiing,
maybe I pinched the nerve at this moment. Another possibility is too
much guitar playing. I play a lot of guitar, about 1h a day. Even if I
don't feel pain while playing guitar (because my left arm is bent, not
stretched), I fear that the problem originates from there, so I
stopped playing until the pain gets fixed.
Please help me! Any advice on what this condition is, and what I
should do to help healing?
Thanks a lot
Olivier

It certainly sounds like a problem with your ulnar nerve, but it may be more
likely that it's at the elbow, where it's much more vulnerable. It's
possible to injure it at the wrist, but it's pretty deep there and generally
well protected. The ulnar nerve comes behind the elbow on the side closest
to your body. I'd suggest you see a doctor. A good physical exam ought to
provide the diagnosis, and failing that, an EMG will nail it down.
