I broke a small part of bone in my left foot last week. It's now in a
cast, and the doctor tells me it will be so for 5 weeks. I am getting
very bored being at home and on crutches. Does anyone know of any
drugs/vitamins which might help the bone heal quicker?
Also, if I go against my doctors wishes and have the plaster cast
removed after, say, 3, weeks, instead of 5 weeks, what will the
consequences be? Is it really possible that removing the cast early
might lead to arthritis later in life?
Thanks and bye.

L-arginine is touted by those in the know ..
Magnets only a week or so ago showed bone regrowth at a higher
rate ..
A search of google should bring up the studies ..

Thanks for the tip about L-arginine.
If my foot does eventually begin to feel better and I have the cast
removed, is it really a grave danger to my foot returning to it's
dysfunctional state? (like stopping taking antibiotics once you begin
to feel better, can lead to a risk of the infection returning, won't
having the cast removed early lead to an increased risk of me damaging
my foot again?)
Thanks friends.

Avoiding both alcohol and nicotine may help, as well as eating a
reasonably healthy diet with adequate calcium. Speed of healing
depends on factors like general health, and age. Younger people
and healthy people heal faster than older people and those in poorer
health. There's also a fair bit of individual variation.

You risk the bone not healing correctly, which can cause lifelong
problems, or require surgery to rebreak and reset the bone. I'd put
up with an extra two weeks of inconvenience, myself.
