Bad thing if (elbow) synovial fluid leaking?
I've had bursitis and tendonitis in both elbows for 2 years (or more).
Steroid injections have been tried in both (2 in the L and 4 in the R)
The last one was in the RT elbow last September.
it was decided I should get a surgical opinion for bursectomy. That is
booked for mid April.
If they agree, I could have a long wait for the actual surgery (Canada)
In November, my RT elbow started bleeding and I discovered a hole (wide
but not deep) at the almost tip of the elbow.
It was very inflamed and painful so first I tried some of my own creams.
Then I saw a GP wh saw no lines (ie infection), but prescribed Fucidin
Cream and told me to apply 3 - 4 times/day
Bandages would not stay on, nor Duo-Derm (with or without the cream).
Some seemed to cause more inflammation (allergy?) and others simiply would
not stay because bending my elbow caused them to pull off (and cause more
pain).
So 4 weeks ago, I went to ER and asked if they could stitch the hole.
I was told no, but he said there might be an infection inside? the
bursa/joint?
So he prescribed oral antibiotic which did not help the pain and
inflammation.
The fucidin cream seemed to be making the elbow pain worse.
(the monograph says "may be an irritant".)
So a few weeks ago, I decided to only apply the cream very mimimal (once a
day, if possible.)
There's been less pain, but I thought that was because I switched from
Sulindac once a day to twice a day.
Holes heal better for me, dry and uncovered.
Twice now this past week) scabs have tried to form, but stick to things
and come off.
On saturday, my elbow started leaking.
The fluid is "slightly slippery" but clear. Leaks 3 or 4 times a day.
I'm assuming it's synovial fluid.
No sign of infection; no bleeding.
Question:
Is it okay if synovial fluid's leaking out?
Is it okay to press the elbow 3 or 4 times a day, to "leak it" into a
cloth or tissue?
Or should I call the referring physican and ask her to ask the hospital if
the surgery consult can be speeded up?
Is it a bad thing if (elbow) synovial fluid leaks out?

Jason, please stay out of it.
Thank you.

Ask your doctor!

No, you should call the referring physician and ask her what to do after
you tell her what you told us.

I suspect that it is fluid that is not from the joint. But ask your doctor.

Thanks Jeff.
I think I'll cancel my call to her.
