Group,
I have received TWO courses of 3 shots each of Hep B vaccine. Subsequent
tests show
non-reactive. It is possible that I cannot develop a titer at all, no matter
how many times
I get vaccinated? I work in a field that involves possible exposure to Hep.
Does the fact that I do not develop anti-bodies mean that I'm already
immune or that
if I do become infected that I never will develop a defense and become a
chronic carrier?
I've been searching for a couple hours and cannot find any definitive
answers. Anyone have any ideas? Adythemic

The fact that there is no evidence of the protective antibodies,
Hepatitis B surface antibody, means there is no protective
neutralizing antibodies in your body. It is possible for the titer to
wane after years but if none were developed in the first place through
post vaccination testing means you are a none responder and
susceptible to hepatitis B. People who are immune to hepatitis B have
demonstrable neutralizing antibodies.
