Currently I'm taking 30 mg of Paxil, without too much success. So i'm
thinking of adding 900 mg of St John's Wort per day. However I have
read that combining an SSRI like Paxil with St John's Wort can
increase the chances of Seratonin syndrome.
Is this a real risk, or do you reckon I can get away with adding St
John's Wort to the Paxil.
I have read from other people that St John's Wort tends to make you
even more emotionless. I am worried about this, since due to my
depression I already have no emotions. I am concerned that if I take
St John's Wort that I will become even more emotionless. Anyone here
who's tried St John Wort tell me the kind of effect it had?

I took St. John's Wort for awhile (not with an SSRI, though), and it
didn't really have any effect at all that I could tell. Other people
have had better luck, and maybe some of them will answer your post.
Have you considered talking with your doctor about supplementing the
Paxil with something else, like Wellbutrin, for example? Maybe he/she
has some ideas that would be more effective and less risky.

Thanks for the tip,but Wellbutirin is not licensed here in the UK for
depression. It can only be used to quite smoking, I think.
I have thought about adding some kind of dopamine drug to the Paxil,
but my doctor is very against dopamine antidepressants because he told
me that they lead to manic type behaviour. Anyone know of any way I
can persuade him to prescribe me a dopamine type antidepressant for
adjunctant use with the Paxil?

I took St Johns Wort with nothing else, but it seemed to have no
effect. You're not supposed to take it with an anti-depressant.
Consider upping the dose of your paxil.

for me it started to have an effect when i upped the dose to 3 caps a day,
but even at that level it pooped out after several months.

no, i wouldn't. and something else about sjw. i had to go in for an
operation while i was taking it, and the hospital told me to stop at least a
week beforehand because it has anticoagulant properties.

St Johns Wort made me more sensitive to the sun, got burned and ill
effects from too much sun. That's the only effect I saw.

Hi, you may want to try a combination that has been successful for me,
tegretol or carbomezapine, Paxil, imiprimine/pamelor and a mild dosage
of antipsychotic. You can check our domain out at www.psychosis-seizure.com,
it is still under construction and the forum needs some work, but it
has lots of information. Hope that this is helpful

For more information on how "successful" david's med regimine is, search
alt.support.depression for posts by David. I think you'll be surprised
by his definition of successful.

it didn't make me emotionless. glad, sad, mad, rad, bad and horny, all were
present along with a fidgety, zippy mood which i think was the sjw
contribution while it lasted, which wasn't that long unfortunately. i'll
tell you what made me emotionless though: zoloft. you just know the z stands
for zombie. i never took paxil, but a friend of mine did and had a similar
complaint. i've been taking a moderate dose of wellbutrin for the past 14
months and i seem to be doing nicely with it.

Some of these herbs have to be taken with oil such as THC .. if taken
orally ..
Soo .. have you looked to see whether this is one of them .. ?
This stuff is after all a supplement and whether THEY could actually

It is a real risk. If you do try this augmentation, ramp up slowly, and be
alert for early symptoms of serotonin syndrome.

It works for some, not for others, pretty much like any antidepressant. It
has relatively little in the way of side effects, and is inexpensive.

My reading of this thread leads me to feel PillPopper is on a bad
track. I'm reminded of how effectively mothers use pacifiers --
those little things are for sale lots of places, for a reason:
that they work -- and that the core reason for pacifiers success
is that they meet the baby's reflex need for something to suck on.
So what happens when the baby grows up? With maybe some unfinished
developmental business there in the head? That's where I see pills
coming in, and that's why I feel PillPopper might want to re-think
what he's doing about his issues. Could PillPopper perhaps seek
treatment? A social-worker therapist, with an eye to choosing what
is the best thing to do at this current point? Talk therapies do
often work; and my reading of the above thread seems to indicate
PillPopper hasn't given this any thought at all.

I have found that taking costco brand, Kirkland multi vitamin packs 3
times a week has healed me. I also run for an hour 4 times a week and
that helps a ton. I was suicidal for 6 months last year, and now I
have joy and peace and I love life again. I know God helped me find a
cheap, natural way to ge healed 'cause when I was suffering so bad, I
prayed for 5 hours a day and read my scriptures for hours a day
seeking stregth not to kill myself. I have 5 kids, and I knew God
wanted me to live. I feel I have been called to help others with
mental illness. I also had to battle all the negative lies in my
mind. I replaced them with positive truths and stopped letting the
lies convince me of anything. You are strong, you are capable, you can
do so much good in this world, you just need healing. I am so happy
to hellp others now that I have been released from the hell of mental
illness. I got off my drugs slowly over the coarse of 2 months, and I
take nothing now. I just run, and take my vitamins a few times a
week. I wish you all the best. My father had bipolar and he was
healed through natural enzymes taken with his meals that containded
protein. Apple Cider Vinegar in its raw form has them. So does
papaya juice, I believe. Best Wishes, enjoy being healed!! Do lots
of Good!!

Sal: In the early 1990's I used SJW for its antiviral properties.
It made me feel strange and photophobic so I quit using it.
