Jeff, did you understand what I was asking. I was implying that part of a
broad spectrum antibiotic may be wasted on killing the good bacteria in the
probiotic (especially if you took them both at the same time) ,and not
enough left to fight of other bacteria that may be causing an infection that
you may have. Do I understand you to mean that it would be good to take
both the antibiotic and the probiotic at the same time...Pete

Most doctors know very little about probiotics, and care very little about
supplements and alternative medicine, and I have never heard one recommend
that you take a probiotic with antibiotics (although I am sure that some
do) - in fact I have asked this question in years past and was told it was
not necessary, but do it if you want. Probiotics are OTC, and come in pill
form as well as in things like yogurt with live active cultures...Pete

The antibiotic is absorbed before most of the bacteria in your gut are
found. Virtually none of your antibiotics are used up with probiotics.

I understand, and that is done via the blood stream. But couldn't it be
possible for the antibiotic to start attacking the bacteria in the probiotic
directly in the duodenum, if you follow me (ie before going into the
bloodstream)...Pete

So little antibiotic would be used up that it wouldn't matter.
