Second request: HELP! with resistant UTI treatment

I have a E.coli UTI resistant to all oral drugs except Macrobid, which
is not clearing it up.  (probably because the bacteria are happily
living in my urethral crypts.  Or maybe just because Macrobid only
works 75% of the time even on susceptible organisms.)

I have heard there is a protocol to treat UTIs with Cefizox
(ceftizoxime) IM with a shot one day and then coming back 3 days later
for a second one.  I might have the drug wrong: it might be Rocephin
(ceftriaxone)

It sounds like a variation on the one shot gonorrhea treatment.  The
bug IS sensitive to these drugs, but the PDR is not much help
when it comes to the details of the protocol.  Nor were a PubMed and a
Google search.

Does anyone know anything about this, what the dosage is, etc?  Should
it be used with the Macrobid (assuming that the bug is still sensitive
to Macrobid)?

Before I go through all the problems of getting IV antibiotics, which
I can infuse myself at home since I'm an RN, but it will mean hep
locks and visiting registry nurses and a LOT of money, I'd rather try
the IM protocol if it works.

Please help me!! This UTI is driving me nuts!

There are many excellent urologists in The Los Angeles area, are you unable
to visit one?

Thank you Dr. Simon.  I have Kaiser.  Which means many days wait to
get into a specialist.  I can go to the E.R.  They probably won't know
much about it.  I will also wait all day.

Right now, I have a friend who is a family practice doc who will treat
me very fast without much fuss and for not too much money if I can
find the right protocol.

Thanks.
