In the shower today I noticed a
discoloration on my heel. See

Afterward I even tried to wipe it
off with an acetone-moistened
paper towel before being convinced
that it was part of me. Does it
have anything to do with the injury
I sustained a week ago when I thwacked
my shin climbing over a railing in
my yard (right side of image)?
If so, what is it and why did it
take so long to appear?

It's probably blood tracking down from bruising/bleeding within your
shin. It is pretty typical with ankle/shin injuries that a few days to a
week later the blood becomes visible on the side of the foot.

But, it's hard to make diagnoses over the Net. If you have concerns, get
it looked at.

With time to think about it, I arrived
at the same conclusion. And the quality
of free advice in this newsgroup seems
pretty good. I won't be running to my
doctor on this one.

The weird thing is that I should be
putting a picture of my foot up where
everybody can see -- but I'm old enough
to remember life before the Internet.
