Zetia and muscle pains - questions

I looked all over the web last night for a Merck / MSP Singapore site
where I could list my symptoms and see if they are the kinds of
symptoms I should be concerned about since I started taking Zetia
three months ago. I couldn't find one and nobody mans the phones at
that place at 1 a.m. EST. Since I have free long distance I would have
called a Singapore number (where the workday had already begun) but I
guess they couldn't find anyone who speaks English there -- my logic
as to why they didn't post a Singapore number.

My symptoms:

1.) Pain in my left hand occurs every time I hold a cell phone or PDA
for 20 minutes or longer.
2.) Morning leg cramps are much more severe and much more frequent
than they have ever been.
3.) Sometimes reaching for sometime with my left hand causes
excruciating pain in my right arm.

I have only noticed #2 and #3 during the last week. I noticed symptom
#1 started about 2 months ago. I saw my doctor last week and she said
it sounds like you I be developing arthritis.

I accepted that but now that symptoms #2 and #3 have shown up I am
wondering if the pains could be Zetia related?

My rationalization goes like this: I am getting older (56) and
arthritis is starting. I hardly ever eat bananas anymore, the last one
was at least six months ago, so maybe I have low potassium now. That
would explain my frequent leg cramps. The severe arm pain was probably
a combination of old age and reaching to turn off a light from a
position in bed where getting to the light was quite a stretch.

Or, maybe it is the Zetia that I take with Gemfibrozil every day?

What do you think?

Thanks.

If you don't need the Zetia every day, stop it for a few days and see
if you feel better.  Try some magnesium which helps with muscle pain
but you should make sure to take a complete vitamin/mineral supplement
in case you are deficient in something like potassium. Call your
doctor or pharmacist about the side effects of Zetia.  That may be it.

It had to be the Zetia. I stopped it for a week and the muscle pains
went away. My doc said stay off the Gemfibrozil too but I don't think
it was the problem. Should I do a trial and error just to make sure it
is only the Zetia. I know my doc would say give it more time but if
you assume his IQ is 175 that still doesn't render him incapable of
making mistakes. I am reckoning 175 is close to the median IQ of most
sci.med.pharmacy readers as well, so my chance of being told good
information is just as good here.

Myalgia (muscle pain) is listed as a rare side effect of Zetia (Ezetimibe)
