for tick removal to prevent transfer of pathogens into the puncture?
Does the victim have a safety window of minutes or hours
following a tick bite ?

Is a globule of liquid soap applied to the tick a good way to get
the tick to disengage from the puncture? Or is there a better
household staple (ammonia, for example) for tick retraction ?

One way to get a tick to disengage is to place a hot match on it.
Also, you want to take a tweezers and make sure the jaws extract with
the whole tick.

If you remove the jaws with the tick, you should be o.k. with regard
to an infection. If you live in an area where deer ticks are
prevalent (which transmit lyme disease) you should have the bite
checked by a doctor. If you are not in a Lyme disease area, a good
dose of antiseptic should be fine.

In the military we would pour peroxide on the bite for sanitation.
