I am scheduled to have my gallbladder removed on next Thursday at
2:30PM by laporoscopy. I am wodering if anyone who has had this
surgery can tell me if they were able to travel in a car for a trip
the next day. My wife and I plan to drive from Knoxville to Louisiana
Friday morning (about a 10 hour drive) if i feel up to it. What are
my chances?

It's possible, but not likely IMHO. Pain and/or nausea, or just generally
feeling like crap as your body tries to repair the damage from the operation
would likely make it a miserable trip. There are some theoretical dangers
too - your body will be a mildly hypercoagulable state post op. Prolonged
sitting increases your risk of deep vein thrombosis in the legs with the
associated possibility of a (potentially fatal) pulmonary embolus.

Having had the same operation 18 months ago, I'd say don't even
*think* about it.

I would definitely recommend against this. What you're going to need is
rest.
There is also the possibility of serious complications like bleeding. If
these complications do arise, you're going want to have the doctor who took
out the gallbladder as well as your regular doctor around to help you out,
not some doctor who never laid eyes on you before taking care of you.
Delay the trip for week, and then, make it known that you are playing it by
ear. You might not even by up to traveling then.
If you decide that you're going to not take advantage of Dr. McCallister's
advice, at least ask your doctor if it is a good idea for you to be 10 hours
away from her after having major surgery so close to your liver and guts.
