I know there are lots of posts on HPV, but I wanted to get mine out there as
well. I have never experienced any symptoms personally from HPV. A girl I
dated 1.5 years ago told me she has it and it's the strain that is linked
with cervical cancer. So I contacted the last girl I dated and told her
about it. She got tested and said that she has it as well, not sure what
strain, still waiting to hear back. She also said she is sure she got it
from me. I'm not sure if this is true or not but will hopefully be able to
get more details.
So, from what I have read, here are my questions, some of them are probably
over-paranoid, but I need to ask them regardless. These all assume I have
HPV.
1. Is it ok to use the same shower and bar of soap as a women? (not
showering with her, but she uses the same shower) This is assuming that we
both use the same bar of soap to wash our genitals.
2. Can HPV be transmitted through kissing? (mouth to mouth)
3. Can HPV be transmitted while both giving and receiving oral sex? (mouth
to genitals) is it generally safe?
4. Before I kiss a girl or give her oral sex, should I talk to her about HPV
and that I might have it? I'm assuming I would have to before I have sex,
even with a condom.
5. I generally date women that are older than 26, the current age limit for
the HPV vaccine. (at least in the U.S.) I'm assuming I need to wait until
the vaccine is available to older women and that they get it before I have
sex with them, even if I wear a condom? How sson will the vaccine open up
to older women and men? Are there currently any clinical trials going on at
least?
6. Even if I don't have any signs of outbreaks, can I still pass HPV on to a
partner?(meaning, is it just as likely to transmit HPV assuming I have it
with or without symptoms?)
7. Are there any HPV tests that are being developed for men or any that
exist in other countries? Anyone have any details about when they might come
out?
thanks for you help, I really appreciate it!

I don't think it is a matter of needing testing, but rather of
priorities.
I would suggest that such a woman talk with her doctor, explain the
specific situation, and ask if she can get the vaccine. That is, she
and her doc can discuss it.
As to your broader questions... I would encourage you to go to the CDC
site, or some other reputable site for serious info. You have no way
to tell here, for the most part, which replies are from knowledgeable
people.
(And no, I am not giving medical advice above. I am merely suggesting
that the woman discuss it with her doctor. I think it is an option, if
they agree -- and she is willing to pay for it.)
