What is wrong with Costco cashews bought in February 2007?
I just received a recall notice from Costco that the cashews "didn't meet
quality standards". I already ate the cashews. What was wrong with them as
Costco didn't say. I asked and the people at the store said they didn't
know.
What is wrong with Costco cashews bought in February 2007?

They turn you into a ravening zombie. If you feel a hankering for
brains, consult a doctor.

Given the amount of time that has passed, I would have to
presume that whatever was/is wrong isn't life threatening. If it
were, you wouldn't be posting :)
I can't find anything on Costco's web site about cashews being
recalled. A Google search didn't tell me anything current.

Hmmm, it doesn't show up on the FDA recall list. Maybe in the next
issue or two they'll have it listed.

I guess that's one advtange of having your store know every little
thing you buy.

If the cashews didn't meet the quality standards of CostCo, but were safe to
eat, they wouldn't show up on the FDA recall list.

What, so you can get a call from Costco:
"We see that you bought a can of cashews on 2/12, and we're calling
to find out if you would be interested in our line of caskets?"

Does CostCo advertise like that?

There's also nothing on Costco's own website.

What exactly does the recall notice say, what is the date on it?

It's a rumor started by the Peanut Cartel (allegedly helmed by ex-prez
Jimmy Carter)
to improve profits.

Yep. Just like the bags of peanuts that have the statement "Warning! Packaged in
a facility that processes nuts." Amazing.

Probably above the FDA limit for "Reject nuts (insect-infested, rancid,
moldy, gummy, and shriveled or empty shells)". Refer to:

hopefully they weren't raw. raw cashews contain a poison that's
deactivated when cooked. don't know how much would be needed to
sicken/kill you, tho.

The chemicals are in the shell, not the nut.

just make sure they're not raw:
http://www.lesliebeck.com/ingredient_index.php?featured_food=67
Cashews come from the same plant family as mango and pistachio, as well as
poison ivy and poison oak. The "poison" in these plants refers to the
powerful chemical irritants they contain, which causes our skin to itch. So,
handling and eating raw cashews will cause the same itchy skin reaction in
people sensitive to the irritant as handling poison ivy.
Since these caustic chemicals are found in the shell oil, not the nuts
themselves, shelling them removes much of this oil and irritants. Roasting
cashews at a high temperature helps ensure that commercially sold nuts will
not trigger a reaction in their consumers, since the roasting process
destroys the shell oil that may still remain on the nut.

They make you mistype Costco as CostCo.
