So my gyno called with good news and bad. As the subject said, my liver
tests came back a-ok, which is a wonderful thing. However my paps are
still abnormal for some reason.
I bled mid-month again too. My monthlies were like clockwork once on
the pill, and before that, the latest it came was 11 days late. Now I
seem to miss it some months, some months it comes whenever it feels like
it, and sometimes I just spot.
My paps keep coming back abnormal, with some normal ones in the mix
there. I have had colposcopies with biopsies twice, and each time the
biopsies came back benign.
Not sure what is going on here, but my gyno said she doesn't think it's
the UCTD causing it. Then what could it be? She is changing my pill
probably in April when I get a repeat pap.
Any ideas out there, maybe from prior experience?

I had repeated abnormal paps, and even an abnormal biopsy -- but eventually
when they kept repeating it it went back to normal. I asked why and they
explained that sometimes even a virus can throw those paps off. I've heard
of this happening numerous times -- so I am not sure what to make of it
either. I got really worked up the first time this happened, but now I just
wait it out and figure my body is just WEIRD.
I hope all is okay!

How long did it take for your body to swing back to normal? This has
been going on for a few years now, which makes me feel that it is my
UCTD- the inflammation causing abnormal paps. It seems us AI'ers are
all suffering from "weird-body-syndrome"! lol
Thanks for the post!

I went back and forth for a year but then it cleared up -- if it has been a
few years for you i don't know what to tell you! I agree - our bodies are
just weird!

Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which most people have. It can cause
dysplasia or cancer. I had cancer. Turns out, I didn't have enough
cancer to need the hysterectomy they had me consent to, but enough to
have most of my cervix removed (it was growing very fast, but hasn't
penetrated very far). That was over 12 years ago, and I haven't had an
abnormal pap in 11 years.
I went in because my cervix hurt; the lesions were exactly where I felt
the pain. Feeling pain is unusual, but spotting, especially after sex,
are common symptoms of cervical dysplasia.
The consensus is that almost all cervical dysplasia and cancer is caused
by a few strains of HPV, of which there are many. Most cause harmless
genital warts; some produce no warts; others cause no warts but
dysplasia dysplasia ("wart effect"); others cause dysplasia that is a
precursor to cancer. One can have the virus without knowing; most
sexually active adults are carriers.

Thanks for the post REP. This has been going on for years, abnormal
pap, colposcopy, repeat pap sometimes normal, mostly abnormal. The
irregular periods just started when I got really sick from my UCTD last
summer. It hasn't regulated since then. Sometimes I miss completely,
sometimes I have a completely light month, just like spotting, and
sometimes I get it mid month even though I'm on the pill. No spotting
from intercourse usually.
When I first had an abnormal pap, they thought I had HPV, and the test
came back possibly the higher risk for cancer kind. Then they did the
colposcopy and biopsy and said that it wasn't HPV, false positive. That
was over two years ago, and ever since I've been having abnormal paps
and I have had another colposcopy and biopsy with everything being benign.
I still think it's because I have inflammation from the UCTD. But for
some reason my gyno says it's not, so I don't know what she thinks it
*is*. She said the time before this one that it was probably some yeast
or something. She's only seen me have two abnormal paps so far because
I switched gynos during all this. This time she seemed a little more
nervous about it, but said to me that "it isn't something to worry
about." But to me I heard the difference in her voice from the last
time she called and sounded so confident that it was nothing to worry
about. This time she gave the good news of having no liver troubles,
and when I started sounding happy she stopped me and said that there's
some bad news, my pap's abnormal again, and she sounded unsure when she
said it's nothing to worry about, not like last time where she just
brushed right on by.
I told her I'm still irregular, and she said that she'll see me in April
for a repeat pap and she probably will change my pill. The last time I
tried changing I ended up contracting all day everyday like I was
pregnant. SO painful, so I fear changing it, but it can't go on like
this either I guess.
I'm sorry to hear you had to deal with cervical cancer. I can't imagine
how scary that had to be. Just waiting for the results of biopsies can
send me up the wall. And then to get the call and have it be bad news,
that's rough!
Thanks again,
-Sharon
Sharon,
I am glad to hear about your liver...That other stuff. Praying that it all
works out and everything is fine.
Hugs Cindy
So glad to hear the liver was fine. I was really worried about you!!!!!!!!!!
You really don't want my prior experience with gyn problems. Let's just say
by the time I got to your age they removed everything. Seriously, thinking
back on it - it was probably lupus just cranking up and creating problems.
