I know a teen girl who has Lupus and right now she is seeing a
specialist about cancer what will happen to her if she doe have cancer??
will it end her life because of the Lupus? I'm not to sure what happens
with Lupus and was curious if someone could explain what could happen if
she does end up with cancer too.

Cancer is treated with the similar drugs that lupus is treated
with called immunosuppressives. Her life will not end because she
has lupus... if her cancer is treatable she may well go into
remission and if she has a stem cell transplant like one of our
members has had due to the combo she may well have a remission of
her lupus as well.. so it isn't all bad... not all good but
better than what you are thinking.
Sending well wishes to her from me!

Tina, it's pretty hard to predict what will happen, even when you have
all the information.  It sounds like you are really worried about your
friend.  She's very lucky to have someone who cares for her enough to
come on a message board like this.  Maybe you could get her to "join"
you here.

The very knowledgable people here would be able to give both of you
more accurate information if they knew more about what kind of lumps
your friend has, whether the doctors have tested the lumps to see if
they are cancer and what kind of symptoms she has with her lupus. Does
she bleed a lot because of the lupus?

Lupus is different for everyone, and many people live normal life
spans.  There are so many kinds of cancer, too, and many of those are
treatable. Try to help your friend take one step at a time and deal
with each new thing as it comes.  Waiting for answers can be the
hardest part.  Take care.

Gretchen.

how would they go about doing a stem cell transplant? if its needed
Grace Casselman - 27 Feb 2004 03:12 GMT
Tina:
I can give you info on stem cell transplants; but it's a risky thing
doctors would only try as a last resort.

Basically it's really severe chemo meant to kill serious cancer. It also
kills your bone marrow, which would kill you; if they didn't have a plan
to remedy that; via the stem cells.

Grace.
