Ok I did some searching about Remecade.
I typed in Remecade in google and wow.. the lawsuits popped up. This made me
think is this drug they are about to give me safe?
I am very very sceptical now and I don't know if I want to take it, but I
feel as if this is my last hope for meds. I feel like I am between a rock
and a hard place. It also said it could aggrevate my Lupus?
Do I take the chance and see if I can reclaim my life back or do I continue
as I am now and maybe one of these days the meds will work.
Chickening out on Remicade,

Hi Rhonda,
Maybe KC can have a look here
http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic3/infliximab_wcp.htm
My other thought (since I've not been following along closely on this newsgroup
but saw your other post about "icky tummy") is that some of us use gastric-pump
inhibitors, they help with nausea/vomiting/ GERD (and other uppper gastro
symptoms) along with meds that upset the tummy, so maybe a review of possibles
and why you (think you) can't take them. There 's other anti-inflammatories
too, Sulindac, Mobic, maybe Sharon has a list somewhere.
Hope you figure it out. What I found out is my doctor was prescribing the most
recent (and sometimes more expensive meds) perhaps unnessarily. It's hard work
sorting out meds, hang in there, hopefuly someone here will be helpful. What
exactly are you wanting to help? Joint pain and swelling?

Rhonda,
I don't know about how safe they are, but to bring back some quality of
life.....
I know that prednisone is very hard on your system. I call it the evil drug.
I only know that my husband has to take it at times to live...He has severe
asthma. It is take it and live or not and well you know.
I have not researched Remecade, so I don't know. But if it help get you up
and moving and out of pain.
As for what J said, My mother overheard a conversation in a Doctors office.
They get a kick back for the drugs they perscribe. So if there is a new drug
out on the market, They will perscribe that to you instead of one that is
older and a generic is available for it....
How true is this? I don't know. I am not saying that it is the truth, just
something my mother believes is true.
Hugs

I've run into this new and expensive medication thing many times over in
treating my bi-polar disorder. Most recently, the doctor put me on lithium
and managed to put me on the ONLY brand of lithium that doesn't have a
generic equivalent. The same with Paxil. She put me on the newest form of
Paxil so that I pay three times as much as I should have to pay. I'm hoping
to get this changed soon, but by the time I figured it out, I was already
taking them for more than a month. With lithium, at least, I have to whean
off and then back onto a different kind. This is one of the most
frustrating things about doctors!
Good luck to you Rhonda. I think you're doing the right thing in
researching the medication carefully. Maybe there are alternatives out
there for you.
