Hey,
When I read of the allergy shots I thought of the flu shots that everyone
takes this time of year. I have never taken them for fear of messing with my
immune system. What are your thoughts on this. To do or not to do, that is
the question!

Well I've had them for two years running and going for my third next week
and I'd recommend them particularity to anyone like me with asthma who gets
(used to)really bad cold/flu regularly and is prone to chest infections.
I've never had any bad side effects from them except for the puncture site
being a bit tender for 4/5 days. The best thing to do is to read as much
as possible and weigh up the pro's and cons and then make up your mind for
yourself. You will hear good and bad the more you look but ultimately the
decision is yours alone:-)

This will be my third year also, all my docs agree that it is absolutely
necessary!
I usually have to take a nap after I get mine, but am fine the next day.

Ditto re taking the flu shot
and this will be my 4th year (*with a year break*)
with the first year being the only problematic year...
got the 'flu' within 3 weeks for 3 weeks solid... very sick..
*so didn't get it the next year and instead got pneumonia with the flu
that year and was hospitalized and very ill!*
So the last 2 years I had them and btw with no problems at all.... so
this year, tomorrow in fact, I get my 4th flu shot and am not as worried
about it as much as I am about getting the 'flu' itself!
FWIW,

I just had a flu shot last week and so far I have been doing good. I
also had a flu shot last yr and ended up in the hospital two weeks later
with severe URI infection which led to pneumonia. Now personally I
don't think that was from the flu shot. I also have been taking
Immunotherapy (Allergy Shots) for the past 4 months now with the ok from
my Rhymmey. Thus far as far as know everything is fine there. I hope
this has helpted some what. Take care. Melody in cali.

Got mine too!
BRAD, did you get *yours*???? I'm very curious as to what decision you
came to.
Paulette, I just have to say that you don't want the flu. I know
there's some who react to it & some that flare, but I just have to
recommend it.
I actually started getting mine before I got ill with this crud, so I've
been quite used to it & may not have a clue as to what it does to people
like Candi. I don't blame her one bit for not taking it. I would say
that you should at least try it, if your doc recommends it & then you'll
know what to do next year.
The virus is dead, so you will not have to worry about the immune
problems, but if you've seen that commercial about the new mist, don't
ever take that as it's a live virus as Janer's has warned. It also says
so on the commercial.
Maggie: Recommending flu shot to everyone except Candi. <w> As well as
a pneumonia shot/booster.

I took mine today. I Am a bit concerned because of the fact that I am on
remacade. I asked the infusion nurse at my rd. She did say it was ok to get
them. I felt a bit tired and achy after. I took some tylenol and I stopped
aching.

I assume that was Brad getting his on November 6th. : )
Glad to hear it!
I sometimes make the mistake of feeling overly protected after getting a
flu shot & end up with a cold that always settles in the chest. I have
vowed to use my antibacterial hand wash religiously this year & avoid
scratching that itch on my nose until I do. When opening doors, I push
with my arm. When pushing elevator buttons I push with my knuckle. I
wash my hands after putting away groceries & store items. I haven't
taken to wiping all the groceries down with a Lysol wipe though. : )
Hoping for a cold-free Winter.....

The biggest pain I find (and not to mention grossness) is that here at
college the bathrooms frequently don't have soap available! How many
people are just running around spreading god knows what, and if I forget
my Purel antibacterial gel (the stuff that evaporates, no water needed),
then I'm up the proverbial creek without a paddle.
Last year's Christmas was no fun at all with that flu from hell. Yuck.
I think I might have gotten it from using the public computer labs here
at school. Do you think the college cleans those keyboards??

Sharon!
Ewwww! lol! Get you a canister of Lysol or Clorox wipes & put a few
in a ziploc bag & keep them in your purse to wipe down the computers &
things you use at school. I have a little pocket size of Purel & I buy
the large bottles & refill the pocket-sized bottle & it goes in the car
& in my pocket or purse if I'm going somewhere for awhile, especially
the doctor's office. Get you a small travel bottle & put you some soap
in it & you'll have a complete sanitary kit. lol!

I'd be sure it doesn't - it's one of the best ways to break a keyboard!
And that's without removing the keys to clean the sides, then putting
them back in the wrong place...
