Is this NG also out of business due to the slump?
Give me some good news, please! I could use a pick me up.

I got her to call her lupus doctor. He had jump from 20 to 60 prednizone (sp??) for a day or so and then back off. She had already gone from 10 to 20. Seems to have worked!!!

One of my current battles is tapering down from 60 mgs. I am at 30 now and ready for the next drop. It hurts but I have no choice.
Please keep us informed.

Is a retired nurse and seems to be quite knowledgeable about meds and her body. She is well aware of the problems of prednisone. I was very happy and proud to have encouraged her to call and with the doc's quick response.

I try to take just decadron on a bad day instead of upping my pred, that way there is no weaning involved and it <dexamethasone> is a synthetic adrenocortical steroid and so a powerful anti-inflammatory; works like a charm for me at even 2mg. sometimes.... other times I need the whole 4mg. tablet but it lasts all day long... if the flare continues on in a way that I can't deal with it at 5 mg. I wait a day and then up the pred... you can't stay on decadron for long periods of time due to serious side effects at high dosages <over 1.5mg> for any length of time; but a couple of days are okay... dentists use it a lot for their root canal and extraction/abscess type patients and it is used in oncology and obstetrics as well.
<good grief, you'd think I was trying to sell it as I look back on what I wrote!!...no, I am not a saleslady nor am I in the pharm. business LOL!!>
Anyway, I am wishing you good luck with your weaning down George .. 30 is a high number considering that I am at 5/daily, <thankfully>... what are you aiming for daily?

My good news is I'm leaving in about an hour and heading to TX to be with my mom and family on her 80th birthday.
Will be thinking of everyone while I'm gone. Be well.

80 years old.. Bless her!
We spent the day with my sister yesterday (84 on Easter) and it was really sweet. She has been much more than a sister to me so every minute we can share is very special.
Your mother is fortunate to have a daughter like you that is thoughtful enough to make the effort to be there for her.
Cherish every moment!

When she goes it will hurt more than you can imagine ever! I had no idea the bond we had was so tight and so strong... it wasn't the same with my father's passing, 12 years before my mom.... and I was 'daddy's little girl' along with my 6 sisters... lol! But with my mother ... her passing has touched my heart like nothing else ever has in the past and never will again! I know you will enjoy your visit ! Fill us in when you can, hugs, Shelagh

Oh, how I know what I will feel when the day comes that I loose my mom. I am not sure I will be able to survive it. We lost my dad when he was 49 and I was 22 and pregnant with my son. That was over 36 yrs ago and not a day goes by that this "daddy's little girl" does not think about him and all of the years that we have not had with him. My mom was only 42 when he died and she has been our rock and soooooo much more for all of my life.
The party we had was a surprise for her and when her sister and nieces and other family members from across the USA walked in she was amazed with what we had pulled off. It was wonderful to combine her birthday with a family reunion.
I am home in CA now and missing everyone so much that I have to tell myself just how lucky I was to spend a week with everyone.
Hugs, Sherry

OMG 2!! where has all the time gone?! And then we have to pay for 2 seats on the flights!! .... So we won't be seeing as much of them as we have been... but we'll still swing it somehow come hell or high water!!
But, I am so sorry you are not well George, anything specific? You want to talk? .. and yes, the ng seems to be in decline all right.. hopefully all the members aren't too!?
Take care of yourself and remember that if you do need to vent, I am always here looking in and reading and listening.... so feel free to let loose, I have strong shoulders!

Shelagh, you are always so thoughtful. Thank you for that.
Our three Omaha grandsons with parents recently came to visit and they utilized that free seat program. The newest one was only 1 month old, the next 19 months and a 4 year old. Of course the prospect of making that trip with those three little ones gave me the shivvers but youth conquered all and they made it just fine.
The media say that travel costs are going to continue down and there should be some promotional fares even through summer. Let's hope...
As for what I have going on, I'm not sure right now. I have just returned from the VAMC Phoenix where I spent most of the day with my primary care doctor and then up to my Rheumy who called me while on premises to come for a command appearance. I have always appreciated the coordination between all my docs, especially these two but the fact that the Rheumy was flagged on the computer with the changes and acted so quickly renewed my confidence in their superior system! ( It also saved me a trip)
The results are stopping some meds, adding some more and changing dosage on others. I can't remember all the new names but I will share when they arrive in the mail soon.
Thanks again for your sweet response and give us a report on the Grandson visit.

MOTH is going through problems with 'prostate' right now and awaiting a biopsy.... not a fun time... scary prospect.... just got to pray is all... you take good care of you!!
<1 month old!! so sweet!! I remember it so well like yesterday and it is almost 2 years..... YIKES!!... my parents warned me about this 'time warp thing' lol!>

Prostate problems have been associated with and are now included on the Vietnam Veterans Agent Orange list. Not sure about in Canada...but if he was in the military and in Nam don't forget to see if it will help you and your MOTH.

Hope you are doing better and the adjustment and changes in the meds do the trick.

But we had such fun and I had my little grandson for a whole day to myself... he was so sweet and good and he and I have got a bond going on now that is really good... he will be 2 next month and is every bit of it... in many ways lol... terrible, sweet, willful and yet loving... I remember my own 2 during this phase and I still love it! I will upload some pics on fotopic when I get them all sorted out and show you how he has changed in the past 5 months! Amazing how they grow from toddlers into little people so very fast!! The only down side is the tiring effect it has on me and the fact that I had that nasty flue bug combo bronchitis just before they came... I now have a temp with hives and my congestion/cough is back!! Fun!! NOT.... but it was worth it... now for a few days of `downtime`and soon I will be right as rain again! hugs to all, Shelagh aka nana
