Hi gang, knock your head together. An opthamologist is checking into my GD eye problems. NOW he seems to think she may have lupus due to her changes in visual acuity so fast. Did a CT scan and it was normal. NOW he wants the family doc to do the test for lupus. I of course stepped in and gave him a thorough list of them. Which I am sure my Daughter will hand to him LOL But the specialist wants to run a AHA or something like that. I know first I thought ANA but she said again AHA. Is that anti histone antibody? Anyone got ideas. I also thought antibody for anemia. GD is tired a lot, just no energy, hurts all over, complains of joint pain but no rashes or zip. I found one reference: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3874029 which says that procainamide can cause drug-induced lupus in some patients. Plus, there are references to anti-histone antibodies appearing in LE and DILE, but the AHA test itself doesn't seem useful by itself as a test for lupus. This two-decade-old reference was all that turned up. Her doctor may think she's having trouble with a medication. Once in awhile tylenol or generic motrin but she don't take that much if any. thanks janers How old is this GD Janers? I got SLE when I was a child, of course no dx atpit, but with my history they traced it back to 12 and my symptoms began with joints and nephritis and fatigue the first few years; and 7 out of 11 symptoms were registered and recorded <including Rh factor, false positive syph., elevated sed rate and few others in labs and several physicals like BP up, joints inflamed, renal etc.> for future monitoring, discovered at the mayo clinic in Rochester Minn. where I was referred and accepted at age 17 due to my internists and urologists and all here in BC, Canada, just not knowing where to go next with me.... However, my dx was not made until age 28 **after many catastrophes** due to docs unfamiliar with the whole scheme of lupus.... finally a rheumy saw my history all together and said 'eureka' ... classic lupus, systemic...... and I've been treated 'properly' since...now almost 30 years ago! OMG! and my prognosis was 10 to 15.... not likely lol.... these days they don't even 'go there' and TG! I too was sick for a number of years and finally when 53 was diagnosed at Cleveland clinic GD is 17 will be 18 next April. she has complained for years of joint pain and they attributed it to "GROWING PAINS" sound familiar? the fatigue hit about 2 years ago and she sleeps because of exhaustion. That made her ouchy and then peer pressure due to her being so "smart". the teens make it hard on any one who is "geek now a days" :) but she got through it and was depressed a lot. Having lots of headaches, vison changes, lights bothered her etc. But never rashes or anything like that. NEVER been tested for blood in urine or any kidney stuff. DID do GI work up due to nausea, and gut pain, found nothing. I wonder sometimes about these doctors looking into things. I know from experience as YOU all do, that this disease is very frustrating to say the least. YOU go from one doc to another then no one believes you feel like SH.., excuse that but it is true. I sent MY daughter all the lab tests CC ran on me and IGG profiles are in that plus elecrophoresis of the urine, Complement levels etccc. so I just hope they do them all. She is pale, tired and just worn out. She is depressed now but working with a service dog to help her cope. HE has been good for her but that is not the main problem I think nor does her mom who is a counselor. SO good thing an opthamologist thought of this, and he worked at Cleveland clinic quite a few years, so he knows what he is doing.
