Today my cat Twyla is going "under the knife" to have a suspicious lump of
tissue removed.  I am trying to treat this just as what it probably is:
woman's best friend having a harmless growth removed.  I will not know any
more about her until late in the afternoon, but I will keep the group
informed.

Love to all of you

It is 5p.m.  I just picked Twyla up from the Vet's office.  She seems none
the worse for wear, except that someone went crazy shaving her... perhaps
they get paid by the inch??  One whole quadrant of her body is shaved and I
don't know how long it will take to grow back.

Assuming the pathology report is good (it was an isolated lump), this
endeavor is pretty well over... except for the bill.

Thanks to all of you for putting up with me

Thank god for that!!
One kitty hopefully on her way out of the mess she's in and prayers that the
path report is clean!
One rheumy yet to go through what he has to in order to leave this life as
easily as possible.... and well wishes to him and his family!
Hope your life is evening out to a nice level again Mair....<ouch on the vet
bill>
Will he consider that you are on assistance and guage your bill accordingly?
I hope!
Anyhow, talk to you by email....
hugs,
Shelagh

Perhaps she is a large cat, and they mistook her for a poodle?

-Mair, I hope that the suspicious lump turns out to be nothing to be
concerned about and that Twyla is doing great.  Some of those who prep for
surgery do seem to get a tad carried away with their shaving!

Still keeping you and your rheumy in my thoughts and prayers.

Hugs,
Sherry

Re: the shaving:  absolute power corrupts absolutely.

After Twyla was home for a few hours, she started to be in pain. Twice she
tried to jump for the big cushy windowsills here by my computer, and she
could not make the jump. She jumped and then fell on the floor.  WAAH!  My
poor kitty!

Then I noticed that she was in pain.  She would give a slight moan every
time she had to move that back leg.  It was sort of like one, two, three,
raaawh, one two three, etc.

So I took her up and put her on the big fluffy comforter that she loves, and
I brought food and water to her, so she could just stay on the bed.  I
stayed next to her all night, so she could rest her head on my arm.  Strange
position I was in on the bed, I am lucky I am just so damn short!

Sometimes pathology places won't let you know if the report is clear, but
that is not all right with me.  I hunt things down.  On the other hand, I
understand that reports take time.  I used to work in pathology typing up
those reports, so I know that there can be tons of them in a stack.  I when
I got in a bad mood always made myself remember that each piecce of
paperwork represented someone anxiously awaiting a phone call.

Anyhow, Twylia is being treated like the little princess, and Arlo is living
outside because he tried to attack her, that rogue miscreant!

Thanks guys for all your love and care.

I put hydrogen peroxide on her wound, and now, apparently, we are not on
speaking terms.  You know how it really bubbles and stings the first time
you put it on a wounds, but then it doesn't do that later... I'm not sure if
that means all the bugs are gone. or what.  I hate to torment her for no
reason.

Does anyone have definitive information on this?

oh. no!
peroxide destroys tissue and impairs healing.
It was once used for debridement.

Got biopsy report  yet?

Dog cage (one she cannot slip out of) her, so she quits jumping.
Put her comforter in there with a smaller litter box and food and water at
entrance area (easy to access).
Put cardboard on the top of the cage, so other kitty won't hurt itself sitting
on top.
If other kitty can slip through the bars, put cardboard partway up all sides.
Get, borrow, rent 2 if she likes to be with you on each floor.
Wait for path and/or get her in to see about leg.
My Katy snapped her back (leg) ligament.
Specialists can do surgery but it's expensive and some heal by themselves, if
cat's caged.
But it could be a bone break for yours.

Thank you for your wise ideas, J.  Twyla is doing fine now.  I neglected to
say that none of her muscle tissue was removed, and so she's just waiting
for stitches to heal.  She is almost back to her "full-service kitty"
status, except, of course, the horrid shave job that was done on her!

We do so much to please our pets; they please us without even knowing it.

Love to you

Presumably she'll have to wait until it regrows, which could take many
weeks. Can you knit her a cat-cover? (And would she wear it if you did?)

I can't see your remark, Andy, but Shelagh sent it to me.  I don't knit or
crochet, but I do sew, mainly alterations.  For my friend's chihuahua, I
took the sleeve off of an old long-sleeved T-shirt.  You put some elastic or
something at the back end and Voila`! cat or doggy sweater.

Oh yeah you have to cut holes for the arms and legs unless you prefer to
take your doggie on a "drag" instead of a walk.

Thanks, Andy.  That cat cover will be forthcoming.
