In the the last report there was some problem with healing, infections
and bandages.

I hope things are progressing well.  How about an update?

We are thinking of you!

Oh boy update.  The bad saga continues.  I am not healing well and surgeon attributes it to use of
steriods all these years and the lupus. I am draining and continuing on antibiotics yet today.
surgery was Feb 20 and incision opened on the 27th.  Still open.

I went to the Hospital wound clinic and the infectious control doctor evaulated it and he too agreed
with the lupus.  Plus he probed the wound and it was DEEP about 2 inches inside.  So that means now
I have home health coming weekly and now teaching hubby how to change the wound and pack it.  You
have to once a day clean it with saline by squirting inside the wound then pack it with Iodoform
gauze which smell likes a bad idodine LOL.  But after that you place a dressing on and hope the darn
thing stays in place, if not repeat it.

the nurses are nice but poor hubby does not like to do it. But weekends we have no choice. He told
them that and they agreed that they would come 3 days a week only and supply us with everything we
need, so that is good. the incision seems to be closing up outside and we have to watch that cause
we do not want that until the inside is closed inward to the outside.
The also cultured it but think it is clean of bugs.
EVER had your buns and back photographed?  OH please better not answer that one LOL.
but that is the update.
The pain level is much less and so it the cramping and numbness. Was told it may take from 4 months
to way longer to heal. Isn't that great!!!   But I can now start to walk the treadmill as welll as
ride my bike.
Wait till I start to ride the Goldwing LOL. Then we will see hehe.  That won't happen till it gets
WAY warmer lol.

so there you got it, George. Aren't you glad you asked?

Have a nice Easter and hope the bunny brings you chocolate cause that sure does help the blues LOL

Good thoughts coming your way, janers, for antiseptic healing from the inside out.

Wow!

That's a bunch!

You gave the impression before this all began that it wasn't going to be
simple and it seems you were right.

With all of the auxiliary problems going on, how is the spine?

One of my favorite sayings is "When you're up to your a.s in alligators,
it is hard to remember your objective was to drain the swamp"!
Some how that seems appropriate here.

You seem to have a wonderful attitude which will serve you very well.

Thanks for the update.

boy there George, your saying was quite appropriate for my situation. Although my a.s is up to more
more than alligators let me tell you that LOL.   I told the nurse today, while I was standing there,
in a "FUN" position, I said, well can I PULL up my drawers now and are you and hubby done enough
talking about my big old buns LOL.  She laughed.

But indeed I knew that there was that risk of infections but luck have it, I have had surgery many
times since diagnosed with lupus and never an infection, so I am lucky there.

My spine is much better and the leg pain is much diminished. I still get bad cramps down my leg but
hopefully that will leave. The numbness is much less too which is a GOD send because I can lay more
on my left side and back.

I see the wound doc tomorrow so we go from there. Still a draining though.

take care all and I do know now what they mean by buns of steel. I surely don't have them LOL

Hey there Andy. I was on duricef.  got the results of the cultures back and NO BUGS NO WHERE>
now that is one clean HINNY LOL.   Sorry I could not resist a good joke there.

but tis true. Went to the wound clinic and all cultures are negative for anything. I get to stop the
duricef now since they are packing with iodoform gauze.  OUCH.  Been on duricef for 3 months so that
should be sufficient they said.

They tell me all wounds have MORE than one bug and more than one antibiotic should be used to treat
any draining wound.  GO figure.

thanks for asking

Janers, I didn't know you were a Motorcycle Mama ;)
Mike and I have a Harley Ultra Classic...and we have only been riding since
2005...But we enjoy it so much...Of course it causes me pain...getting up in
the morning causes pain...lol
We are a members of
STAR TOURING AND RIDING - Mission Statement
To pursue, promote, and protect the interests of motorcyclists; to develop
better and more enthusiastic relations between the general public, the
media, the operators and riders of motorcycles; to encourage rider
participation in events; to promote motorcycle safety and camaraderie among
members; to promote organized events; and in general, perform them in a
lawful manner.

Also with all Mike's hernia repairs...20+...We quit counting...he has had
the same wound problems...
a few different times...I think the steroids that he takes to keep him
breathing (asthma and non allergic Rhinits) also contributes to his not
healing...

So lots of prayers and hugs to you Janers...I do hope that you heal and ride
....warmer weather is coming...
Hugs Cindy
