Candi Bowen - 15 Nov 2007 19:27 GMT No, I'm not writing this from the great beyond. I didn't do the sleep study because (1) my portion would have been $800 & (2) the Singulair & Proventil have greatly lessened the problem. In severity and quantity. Which leads us to believe it's a strange (of course) form of asthma/allergies (I almost wrote assergies). I still have the trach kit beside the bed even tho I promised my doc I'd throw it away. It's comforting.
I've been way busy editing Dirty Books for Phaze Publishing. Thanks, Bev! This job is perfect!! The last one I edited was by THE Piers Anthony himself!! Awesome! It'll be released mid-February, titled 'Relationships II'. It'll be at Borders - it's not graphically grotesquely erotic, but 20 wonderfully written steamy fantasy/sci-fi stories. I don't think you'd be interested in the other ones I've done. Really. My 1st assignment (which I chose by the way) turned out to be categorized M/M. I didn't know what that stood for but after the 3rd paragraph it was blazingly obvious it was Man/Man. Anyway, I'm almost ready to submit my 50,000 word manuscript & Bev is pretty close to getting published herself. Any writers here? We've been critiquing each others work. It's fun & informative; well, it is for me but I can't speak for Bev. She'll lie though just to be nice.

Definitely not steamy, romantic, leisure-time reading...

Candi Bowen - 15 Nov 2007 22:24 GMT Oh boy, Andy, whatever trips your trigger. Or stamp. A good friend of mine has been collecting them, and coins, for 40+ years & he is sooo into it. I started stamp collecting when I was nine but reading & writing won out. Sorry.

In fact Andy, I found it interesting, (George Orwell's 1984 pneumatic systems intrigued me .... and better yet, can you picture a transatlantic pneumatic subway... once actually considered !!)
Is the book you co-authored in both languages as is the review, and who did the German language, you or your co-writer Colin Tobitt?
btw, is there no British Philatelic Society? How is it that you are 'chair' for the Austrian society? Interesting if that is your hobby/niche, I'm sure, -- thanks for sharing! -- hugs, Shelagh http://clik.to/lupus

Shelagh - 16 Nov 2007 17:31 GMT Aha ! so now I understand....thanks for the explaining Andy!
The theme or topic collection of stamps re: cats/birds etc. I do understand and a lot of 'Canadians go that route' whether it be animals or industrial like <shipping, history of planes etc>... at least in the small group of peeps I know, there are collectors in those realms. I imagine it could be very educational as a hobby as well as possibly rewarding with the collecting end. Is it true that some of the stamps gain in value over time, depending of course .... like with coins?
...and my mistake over your sig..... it make sense as you lay them out... I just didn't look far enough is all, sorry.....
Thanks again for sharing!

Shelagh - 16 Nov 2007 20:07 GMT Yes no doubt, obsessive is my middle name when it comes to 'interests/hobbies' lol! but... I'd imagine that keeping the stamps in the family, like 'heirlooms' and pass them down through the 'ages', that in time, it would be nice to recognize that they may benefit from the long hours of interests of collecting that their ancestors, 'being you Andy, have done... <g> .. again, thanks!

Pigmet - 17 Nov 2007 17:31 GMT I have a ton of stamps that I bought on Ebay...you can get lots of them there for practically nothing but the postage.
I take the sets or "editions" I guess you would call them--a set of 5 or 6 stamps with the same artwork/artist. Then I laminate them together to make bookmarks. They look really lovely, and they preserve the stamp as well.
Tell me, Andy, would this be considered "sacreligous" to stamp collectors?

Don't let that put you off - at worst, if you destroy a copy of an immensely valuable stamp you increase the value of the others...
There's some artist somewhere who makes giant pictures, using stamps chosen purely for their color!

Mair - 19 Nov 2007 23:41 GMT Well there are a lot of ugly stamps out there. When I bought the "batches" of stamp on Ebay, I got tons of brown and green and red stamps with some important guy's head on it.... which you could barely see. I used some of these stamps to figure out my laminating technique... in my house, I am always in need of another bookmarker!
The stamps I love are the Hungarian "Magyar Posta"--they are super, and also the Russian stamps that look like ink and watercolor.
Our stamps here in the US have gotten quite boring. They used to have a downsized entire work of art. It was one of my secret desires to have one of my drawings to be on a postage stamp!

Mair - 22 Nov 2007 03:21 GMT Top Left--meaning the one that does not have a picture? It's not a *bad* stamp... ;-p
hey now you can use a computer and make any photo you want into a postage stamp...SO! I guess I could learn how to do that, and make my own stamps with my own artwork on them. Doesn't have the same feel, though--like publishing a book with your own money through a Vanity Publisher.
But I wanted to find out what the philatelys, of Austria anyway, feel about the idea of having these kind of stamps... or is that just considered a complete aside to what you guys consider "real" stamps?

You have to do it through a Post Office if you want them to be valid for postage. You can't see it on the small picture, but the border is covered in little posthorns printed in a security ink.
Of course, you can do your own label and stick it on the envelope...
>But I wanted to find out what the philatelys, of Austria anyway, feel about >the idea of having these kind of stamps... or is that just considered a >complete aside to what you guys consider "real" stamps? Opinions differ. Some people think they are about as philatelic as supermarket savings stickers; others love the idea. There's over 5000 different ones issued now!

janers - 16 Nov 2007 13:58 GMT Darn glad to hear you feel better but wish you would not of cancelled that test but understand why though.
It could absolutely be the allergies, bad ones that messed you up. But since the meds are helping that indeeds tells them what is wrong. Just continue taking them and don't quit them or I will come there and pounce on you, you hear there Candi!! hehe.
I am glad you and Bev have something in common. I wish I could do that but have no patience to do so. I do like them kind of "BOOKS" though haha. Some the more racey the better hehe. enough said.
YOU take care and God bless
janers
Sherry - 16 Nov 2007 15:27 GMT Candi, glad that the meds are helping and your attacks have lessened. I did not realize the sleep studies were that expensive...WOW...I wouldn't be able to cover that either and would be doing pretty much the same as you.
Keep us all posted on how you are doing.
Hugs, Sherry
Candi Bowen - 16 Nov 2007 23:24 GMT Sleep studies are over $3,000.00. Aren't there very exclusive hotels with hot tubs & massages & chocolate-covered cherries in a silver bowl & a fan-waving slave feeding you peeled grapes in the same price range? Since I'm in the uninsured poor category (can't GET insurance - tried - even tho I worked my whole life & had really good coverage), most of the cost would have been paid for by my poor person's 'coverage'. Except for the $800 for the doc to read the results. Actually, I'm glad I didn't do it, & not because I SOOO didn't want to. No. The meds are helping immensely so I know it's allergy related. But of course, no one's ever heard of allergies being that bad. Anyone with me here on weird stuff happening?? The Singulair is $127 a month I got a 20% discount, then my doc's office called yesterday & said I qualify for free meds with Pfizer in the future so yay!

> Candi, glad that the meds are helping and your attacks have lessened. > I did not realize the sleep studies were that expensive...WOW...I wouldn't [quoted text clipped - 5 lines] > Hugs, > Sherry Sherry - 16 Nov 2007 23:38 GMT Seems that most of the meds we get are ridiculously priced. No wonder so many of us have trouble keeping up with them even when we have some insursance. Good for the Pfizer being free next time...seems your doc would give you samples of your inhaler since he is aware of your finances.
We are still trying to recover from having to pay cash up front from my son's "accident" (no insurance) and his surgery and rehab. Not to mention that he was off work for 4 months because of the shattered wrist. So I know what you mean about expenses.
Hugs, Sherry
Andy - 17 Nov 2007 13:53 GMT > Aren't there very exclusive hotels with >hot tubs & massages & chocolate-covered cherries in a silver bowl & a >fan-waving slave feeding you peeled grapes in the same price range? Normal (but unmet) expectation in this house, according to my wife :)

janers - 18 Nov 2007 15:12 GMT My niece and he kids all have allergies. Yes they cana be bad and can make it very difficult to breathe to the point of NOT breathing.
It is and has to be horrifying for you to go through this.
NOW one more thing, where did this spanking thing come from in another post.
got to thinking of them BOOKS you people are writing now hehehe
OK laugh
hugs janers
Pigmet - 19 Nov 2007 21:39 GMT I've got several yarns bubbling up through my twisted mind, but I am way further down the food chain than you guys are. I can't write just one book... the other stories invade my mind. That's not lupus... its my "other disorder." But maybe somehow I can get some help.
So there. Yes there is another "writer" lurking on the ng.
