Plaquenil is rarely if ever a problem for anyone taking it.... it is an anti-malarial drug used for lupus commonly.
Chloroquin, in the same family with a different suffix to it's legit. name, is the one to be very careful with.
I couldn't take plaquenil and so ended up on chloroquin and now have retinal damage, irreversible damage.
Any possible damage caused by plaquenil though is reversible... so good luck with it.
I found it to work very well and it took about 2 or 3 months for that full effective success.... I was very sorry to have to go off of it and miss it daily with arthritis and skin issues that have cropped back up!
Plaquenil is safe and effective so if recommended by your doctor I would give a thumbs up and say
Go for it!!

I've taken it for 14 years with no problems to the eyes. My eye
doctor said to look for rings of light or blurriness as signs
something is wrong. My rheumatoligst said he's only seen one case of
eye damage in 25 years, so it must be fairly safe because almost every
lupie I've met is taking or has taken it.

My doc gave me a visual grid to look at every day while taking
Plaquenil. He said if the lines are distorded or missing in any shape
form or fashion to come in immediately. Who would have know I
noticed an area of distortion in my left eye and the doc sent me to a
retinal specialist and I have central serius retinopathy. I can never
take plaquenil or steroids again. So it can happen but it is rare.
