I was diagnosed with lupus 4 years ago and I've managed to get things
mostly under control by taking a buttload of medications and staying
out of the sun as much as possible, but I'm 36 now and the biological
clock is ticking away here and I'd really like to have kids someday
and have the the energy to raise them so I'm trying to explore
alternative methods that might work instead of the medications.
I want to get off all the meds I'm taking. Right now I'm taking
prednisone, plaquenil, diflusinal, protonix, levsin, celexa everyday
and ambien and flexeril and tylenol and immodium on an as needed
basis. Sometimes, the pain's so bad I start thinking that I should
ask the doctor for some vicodin.
So I read this book called Living Without Pain by this guy named
Harvey Diamond who recommends all sorts of oddball stuff. Have any of
you tried his diet or any other diet that actually made you feel
better and made it possible for you to go off drugs? I mean
seriously, if you told me eating sardines and brussel sprouts every
day would cure my lupus, I would do it. I would be grossed out, but
I'd give it a shot. I'm sort of desperate at this point.
Thanks,
Lisa

Lisa,
Well, I did a diet that my pain doctor put me on, NO CARBS, no sugar,
meaning, no milk, bread, anything like that. It really did help the
pain diminish. It stops the inflammation. But it's really hard to
stick to. I ate alot of fish and veggies and salad and chicken and
stuff. No red meat, that's hard on your stomach, we have too delicate
of constitutions, and not too many raw veggies. You can have soy
milk, but the kind with no sugar, stuff like that. It does work, but
I would consult a dietition before I did anything like that, and your
doctor.
Hope that helps.
