Just got back from dermy. It is lupus sores and they can and will cause you
to loose your hair and scaring.

He gave me a script for Olux .05%  it is a foam cortisone and you apply it
with your fingers by rubbing it is twice a day.   Not to use any harsh
shampoos as well.

He talked about sun damage and I told him I usually wear a hat but he says
sometimes a HAT causes more trouble right now with this flare but to wear
it.  LOL. Duh
Then mentioned there are spray UVA/UVB sun blocks that are now on the
market that come out clear and dry fast.  You can use that on your head
also to help. Or just use your cream..YEAH right like that will look nice
on my head LOL. But to use these products.

There is some place where you can get a sunblock shampoo.  Any one
know????? Or am I wishing.

So it is systemic for me, and some can call it discoid but mine has
progressed along with the SLE, so nothing new but MORE of it.....

first the scalp swelled in areas, seeps some  and very very TENDER, you
can' t comb your hair cause of the pain and I am not kidding here.  You
hardly can touch it either ......Then when it opens it scabs over big time
and still is very uncomfortable but don't pick.  SURE LOL.      Ok enough
said.
ON dermy pages on the net look up discoid and subcutaneous lupus lesions on
the scalp. YOU can see them as well as some that are just like mine.
I am red hair, fair skin and well looks to me like pinpoint pimples that
are white...and red and whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I know just what you are going through I have the same things and I
alway have a hat on, even in the house cause the over head lights will
do the same thing to me.

By wearing a hat I have notice that it hold in the heat on the head so I
don't know if that what keeps it going or not...but I know that I can't
go without a hat.

I wore a hat to the dr office here the other week and was in there
sitting under those light for about 2 hours and in a couple of day the
top of my head was red and with sore and the pain...oh the pain...

I never thought of putting sunscreen on the top of my head...but its
worth a try if it stop the break out.

I went to search and put in Hair Sunscreen and came up with this:

http://www.cosmeticscop.com/learn/hair.asp?ID=399

What that say is shampoo doesn't work cause you wash it out....make
sense.

And no your hair doesn't grow back I have a nice bald spot on the top...

Hope the med works for you it never did for me.

It is old hat to me now, so to speak. . .but the first time I had
these, I thought it was huge patches of dandruff and bought some
Tegrin coal tar shampoo. This does relieve the itching for a time, but
coal tar smells Godawful, and has also been linked to cancer, so we
all want to minimize exposure. Take care, Melinda
