Had anyone had your scalp so sore it is hard to comb your hair. I mean
swelling and pain. All over the scalp.
I have had previously has occassional sores and treated with beta methazone
dip, a cortisone liquid and it helped.
But this seems to be all over with swelling and feel like little bumps with
heads.  Hubby sees some redness and swelling but nothing big.

Man it hurts.

any ideas on this folks.  I see dermy tues next week.

thanks much

Allergy to something? New hair spray? New hat? Something you rest your
head on?

I do, right now the top of my head is red and sore and has some sores on
it. I don't have to touch it, it hurt all the time.

When I went to the new dr a couple of weeks ago I wore my hat and he
made me take it off to see and then made me leave it off while I was
there and the only thing I can think of is the lights that I was sitting
under made the sore and turn red and sore.

When I went yesterday to see him and show him what happen from sitting
under his lights with out my hat, well sorry but the lights didn't do
that you must of been in the sun.

My hubby jump in and said that I was not out in the sun, she stay in
house...and if she goes out she wear her hat. Then its after the sun has
gone down some.

I had that trouble since 95...when I was dx with lupus. There is a big
bald spot up there and the hair is very thin. It would heal up some and
then come right back I have never had it clear up since 95.

Good ? to ask if anyone else has this trouble what do you do for it?

When the hair grows back, is it the same as it was or different?

Yes Janers, I have had this experience.  It is a bit spooky to read
these descriptions of ailments that so vividly describe my own.

In my case the soreness seems to migrate about my scalp and is sometimes
so intense that I can't touch it.  The sores come and go so I have never
considered the relationship to the soreness.

It makes sense that if one has a sun sensitivity the scalp would be
affected as well as any other exposed skin. Have you been in the sun?

In my layman's opinion, I suspect some of this is caused by the large
assortment and quantity of meds we take.  Right now I am on 30 mg
prednisone daily so nothing bothers me.  That stuff can mask about anything!

I hope you find relief.

Good luck,

George

Sometimes a tender or painful scalp can be a symptom of temporal
arteritis (TA) also known as giant cell arteritis.  That's a very
serious condition and can result in sudden loss of vision.

As you have lupus, you're more likely to develop another autoimmune
disease than are people without an autoimmune disease.

You might want to ask your rheumatologist about TA.  If you experience
any sudden change in visual acuity, see your ophthalmologist right away.
