janers - 17 Apr 2007 19:28 GMT George hiccupped. hehe
I am here and posted about DHEA but got very little response. Now fighting nose sores ever since Florida. I think the pollen got inside. LOL. Naw it is lupus, blood work confirmed it. I also have sore on my head and in my mouth again..Seems I am full of it. OK NO comments on that one people.
Heard from Bev, she is having a rough time, maybe give her some encouragement!!! Anyone!!!
And I agree, this board is way too QUIET for any of us...
As far as ironman? Just ignore the idiot, I blocked him many times but he keeps right on coming back with another name. Seems his energizer pack won't shut off. Maybe we should. ok I won't go on there. hehe
How you doing Sherry?

whozitsdad - 17 Apr 2007 20:05 GMT Good afternoon all.
Well I don't know anyone on here as of yet and I'm guilty of spending too much time on other Lupus projects. Personal website, blog, fundraising, etc etc. I'd like to introduce myself and declare that I'm not Ironman :)
My name is Terry; married 10 wonderful years to the same lady (it helps). I have a great six turning seven year old son. Toss in a couple of large dogs (Black Lab & Doberman) and you have a family!!!
My wife was Dx 11 years ago with SLE. If you're interested you can read her our story at www.fightlupus.com It is too long to post here and I don't want to be accused being a spammer yet :)
She just came home a few days ago from St. Lukes (Mayo hospital in Jacksonville Florida) after suffering a serious flare. Good news: no organ involvement. Bad news: they're still working on determining whether she has cns involvement or not. I say no, she says no, MRI says no...doctors still not convinced.
Anyways, just wanted to say hello and let you know that I do troll this newsgroup.....just quiet most of the time.
A bit about me you ask? Full Time IT guy for a telecom/ISP; advocate for Lupus/LFA and sit on this years awards & gala committee. I coach my son in ball and hockey and we live on a very beautiful island here in the Golden Isles.
That's it for now. Terry
Sherry - 17 Apr 2007 21:07 GMT Terry, Welcome to the group! Thanks for the intro and don't be so quiet!
Hugs, Sherry

I read your wife's story, and appreciated that she shared it. I keep thinking maybe there should be a website where people can go and each person can write their "lupus story." Mine also began with medical mysteries that had everyone puzzled. The medical mysteries began at age 19, the Fatigue came at 23, and here I am at 30 just recently diagnosed and placed on treatment for 1 rheumatoid disease, though we do not know if I have others. The mystery continues. A life of questions and uncertainty for me. Thank goodness my boyfriend wasn't scared off once I began a horrible flare after we'd been dating a few months! He's a sweetheart and joins me for the 8+ hours of driving to and from each visit to my Rheumatologist in Cleveland.
Thanks for being an advocate for research and a good support to your wife!
janers - 18 Apr 2007 01:16 GMT Welcome Terry and wife
Good to have you here but sorry it has to be that way.
I will read your site soon and hope your wife is feeling good right now.
Orlando? Well I was close to you a month or so ago. Went to Disney world to check out the RV park one day. nice place but EXPENSIVE!!!
Beautiful area though

Looks like 1/10 subscribe to this newsgroup vs diabetes NG. I guess 10 times as many people have diabetes compared to Lupus?

>Looks like 1/10 subscribe to this newsgroup vs diabetes NG. I guess 10 >times as many people have diabetes compared to Lupus? No, it's more complicated than that :(
For "western European" adults (this includes Americans of W E descent), about 1 in 1000 females have lupus and about 1 in 8000 men.
The corresponding incidence of diabetes is about 50 per 1000 for either gender (as far as I can find)
Also, not all newsgroupers have Lupus: maybe 75% do.
It does look as if Lupus predisposes one to writing :)

I have an even harder time finding Sjogren's Syndrome support groups (which is why I spend most of my time here in the Lupus Group--though I suspect that I have Lupus in addition to SS, it has not been diagnosed). I contacted the SSO, and they said there is no local chapter. The Google Sjogren's group is inactive, and I have not found any other Sjogren's group that apprears to have any activity, so it's very discouraging and hard to find people to talk to.
Of all things, though, I just happened to overhear a co-worker who is just 1 yr older than me telling someone that she has Sjogren's Syndrome. Talk about defying the odds! We are 30 & 31 yrs old and have had Sjogren's since our 20s (most common in women in their late 40s and beyond), and in a 450 employee workplace we happened to find each other. She is my one and only support person, and since we were diagnosed at roughly the same time, we are equally new and inexperienced with this stuff.
I will say that other than old IJ, this is a really helpful support group.

I don't see a group like this mentioned but I haven't read all of the site.

whozitsdad - 22 Apr 2007 15:42 GMT Thanks for the welcome. I'll try hard to post up more!!! I enjoy reading other posts and always learning about others and their Dx and treatments. I've been pretty busy with the LFA Awards Gala coming up in a couple of weeks, I just get sick of the computer.
I wish I could run a poll in here. I'm curious to find out and learn form persons affected by Lupus, whether it be a family, friend or co- worker if Lupus gets the attention it deserves? I ask this because I remember several years ago, there use to be a very active lupus board which has since died. I have gotten frustrated fundraising this time of the year given the fact, our local "Relay For Life", another great fundraiser is taking place in several places this month and next month.
I welcome the feedback please :) Terry
