Had a specialist in Boston review my biopsy slide. Here is his
report:
"This lesion is indeed an example of lupus erythermatosous of the
discoid type. It interestingly shows a very thickened basement
membrane zone and prominent interface changes affecting the
appendages. There is follicular plugging. What is interesting is
that there are areas of postinflamation pigmentation in some parts of
the lesion, especially where the basement membrane zone is less
thickened. While most cases of discoid LE have lesions confined to
the skin, in some series 30% of patients with systemic LE can present
discoid lesions. Therefore, clinical correlation is necessary."
BTW, I am a 58 y/old male, no other symptoms, and all lab work has
come back negative. I am athletic in build with no extra weight.
Any guidance as to what exactly the above means would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanx.

It means "your time is up; insert more money".
No, seriously... I'm not a doctor (no regular poster here is - or if
they are they conceal it) but I think it means (a) you have a discoid
lupus lesion (b) and it may well be the presenting symptom of systemic
lupus as opposed to discoid in its own right (c) so further medical
tests are necessary.
How do you match with the "11 criteria" as listed at the heading
SPECIFIC SYMPTOMS about half way down:
