Here in CA, you can do the same. My thing is, I don't want to be pulled
over repeatedly and questioned.
There is a clear film available that blocks UVA/UVB rays. That's what I
have on my front windows.
I live in the San Joaquin valley and like Florida, it gets *very* hot here.
Sideline: I went to 7-11 the other day... all the parking spots were taken
except handicap. There was a motorcycle officer in the parking lot,
drinking water. So I park, put my placard up and wait. Within 20 seconds,
he knocks on my window and asks me if I knew of the "new" rule. I replied
honestly, "No, what new rule?" "The one that states only....wait, hold on,
who's the placard assigned to?" "Myself" "Oh ok! I'll tell you the rule
anyways.... the placard can only be used if the person it's assigned to, is
in the car. Too many people take advantage of it otherwise. Just wanted to
let you know, in case it wasn't yours."
He didn't have his ticket book or anything. He was surprised that at 30 yo,
I had a perm. parking placard. Oh well, he was very nice about it and I
found it comical especially since I sent my daughter inside the store (I
could see her the entire time)

Same for Ohio for the tint, you need to have a script but there is a tint
limit. and if you got above that limit then you need the script from
doctor.
The place cards for handicap should have always been for ONLY the person
that is handicapped. makes sense right? LOL.
Well little story. MY mother was handicapped with a wheelchair and back in
the 70's she didn't have one then. Well Bless her soul she is not with us
anymore and would of loved to have one.
Now my sis and I were shopping one day. I drove and at the time I had a
brace on my leg and foot and of course have been given a handicap sticker.
We drove into the lot and my sis looks up on her visor and sees that. She
says "you got to be kidding me, you are NOT going to use that are you?"
(she was embarrassed by it because we don't look OLD)!! and she is NOT
liking this.
I laughed out loud and said "WATCH ME cause HONESTLY, I had not used it at
all because I felt I should be able to walk it? BUT today, well she was
there and I wanted to embarrass her. I DID!!
I zoomed into the lot space, popped that sticker on the mirror and told her
get out. She said YOU d... silly thing and laughed so loud. We got to
thinking of our mom and how much she would of enjoyed this" OUR fun but our
ability to know that just because we don't look OLD doesn't mean we can't
use things that help us cope and get around in the world. Plus NEVER< I
MEAN Never Judge a book by ITS cover cause that is just what handicap
stickers are. YOU don't have to look handicapped to be one.
Just thought I would share. why? reminds me of my mom an it is the
holidays.

Window tint prescriptions seem usefull and cruel at the same time. When
was the last time a doctor did anything for free? Pay for the paperwork
fees at the docs.... then still have to pay the car place to put on the
tinted film. Maybe I'm just too cheap... but accomodating myself is a
chore!
I finally broke down and got my placard last week. It is very awkward
getting out of the car being a tall 28 year old (who moves like an 80
year old). Just waiting for the officers to ask for my registration for
the placard. Thank God all of my friends keep it light, and joke that I
get all of the "Kicka$$ parking spaces." It's actually been the
dividing line between not being able to go somewhere at all, and now
being able to go and still have energy to get the groceries from the
cart to the register.
Something hubby and I talked about though. The handicap symbol needs a
revamp. Feeling a little weird I don't have a wheel chair. Maybe we
could have customizable placards. One with the stick figure and a
walker for me. Maybe my amputee friend could get his stick figure sans
left leg.
Oh I know horrible jokes. But I do tend to have a bit twisted sense of
humour. And being able to have fun with my disabilities is important.

I only see the universal wheelchair symbol in the typeface used for
signage, "Carta" from Adobe. It's standard on printers with Level 3
PostScript support.

I have called those "gimp tags" over the years. I was close to a blind
woman who wanted to know where her "blink tag" was. I made sure my late
father had one for his COPD so he would'nt be winded walking all over a
parking lot when he needed to see a doctor.
Now I have to get on Marie to get one renewed for her lupus. Even though
we don't have cars, someone she is with might give her a ride and they
can use it.
I would think that window tinting with a doctor's scrip would be payable
with a §121 medical flex account.
I have a bunch of snarky road signs made up, like:

And I can add more.

I don't think that is for a medical flex. I use to manage one for a
company.

Now I'm confused - not unusual. lol. I just read on the tint industry's web
site that in CA there is no part of the law that syas that having an Rx for
darker than legal tints are OK.
Also, Nicole, if you don't mind, what is the source of your clear film?
the 1 company I emailed with said they didn't offer one, but they could send
a kit with precisely cut front window films for only $25, which I think is
reasonable. And did you get it applies at a shop or did you apply it
yourselves?
TIA,

I talked to a friend of ours who does window tinting- that's not something
we do ourselves. I have a Chevy Tahoe and it was only 32$/per window. All
my rear windows are already tinted to the darkest available. Can't remember
what the windshield was.
You can get the same tinting for your house windows as your car- the clear
with uva/uvb protection.

a.. Tinting the front side windows and the windshield (except for a narrow
band at the top of the windshield). Windows behind the driver's head may be
tinted. If rear window is tinted, right-side mirror is required (26708 VC).
The law in CA changed in 99. I know it's still a fix it ticket but you're
still pulled over, given a ticket, have to go to the courthouse, etc. I'll
stick w/the clear film. The no tinting is for the officers safety which I
fully understand.
