Hello All,

I was just diagnosed today with Lupus after 12 years of suffering and being
diagnosed with everything in the book but Lupus.

Does anyone know a good doctor that specializes in Lupus in the Ohio area?

You might try the Lupus Society for a suggestion. They do have lists of
doctors. Here is the link:

Good luck ~

Hi Connie,

First, Welcome!  I live in Ohio, and so far the struggle has been a
long one.  I have tried 3 different doctors in Cincinnati without
success, so I did some research and found an article done by US News
and World Report that rates the Cleveland Clinic as being 4th in the
nation in Rheumatology.

For me the Cleveland Clinic is a long drive, but it will be worth it to
get quality care.  You can look at their Rheumatology department
online, and they have a LARGE staff, and each rheumatologist has
different areas of expertise.  There are several who specialize in
Lupus.

My appointment isn't until next month, so I can's speak from
experience, but the Cleveland Clinic has a great reputation.

For me, I think I could waste another 2-3 years here in Cincinnati
getting a diagnosis and proper treatment...I believe at the Cleveland
Clinic they will be more vigilant about helping me and will diagnose me
sooner.

I think I can relate to you.  I have been going to doctor after doctor.
I believe a lot of people with Autoimmune disease go through this.

I have been told I just need to exercise more, that I'm probably just
depressed, that I need to sleep more, that I have fibromyalgia, and on
and on and on.  The doctors here take a wait-and-see approach.
Meanwhile, a year has gone by since we discovered I have the SS-A
antibody and a positive RF....and what did my most current doctor do?
She sent me to a sleep clinic...$2800 later (thank heavens for
insurance) they declare that I have no sleep disorder.  So the doctor
gives me a muscle relaxer to sleep better....I told her I sleep fine in
the first place.  It's like they don't listen....actually, I can say,
they DON'T Listen here...at least none of the ones I've gone to.

So I am going to find a doctor who will work on my Autoimmune problems
and not send me of on ridiculous "wild-goose-chases" like going to
sleep clinics.

If you want, you can e-mail me.  In case you want to go to a doctor in
Cincinnati (in case you don't want to drive to Cleveland...I'm not sure
where in Ohio you are), at least I can tell you the ones I went to, so
you know which ones to avoid.  I don't want to post their names on
here...I don't know what kind of repercussions that would have.

Hello and I am also from ohio.

Michelle mentioned the Cleveland clinic and I can't say enough about there
facility. I was diagnosed at CC by a Dr Rendt, who now has moved to Florida
but I found her LOL.  Luck has it when I go to Fl for the winter I won't
need her but know where she is ....:)

Ok, about CC.  It is a great place for treatment and they are very cordial
to patients.  when making an appointment they send you HOW to get there and
help with places to stay.

I kept going there for over 7 or 8 months and finally in my area we got a
"decent " rheumy  in my home area of NW Ohio. and she is smart, efficient
and well versed in lupus as well as other diseases of the immune system.

Toledo has a few good rheumy's as well.  YOU have to let me know privately
where you are from and I can give you a list of docs from ohio. I do
volunteer for the lupus foundation of NW ohio.  SO let me know.

It is well worth the drive to CC but just remember when first going you will
have to make a few trips to get settled with the doc.  I was going every 2
weeks then 3 weeks then montly...so.......

Just let me know where about and I can help you more.

OHIO HOME Of the BUCKEYES.  Is that loud enough? haha
ChelleSmiles - 18 Oct 2006 14:42 GMT
It makes me feel good to hear from someone who has gone to the
Cleveland Clinic.  I have heard broad statements and the rating by US
News and World Report was helpful, but to hear first hand is more
reassuring.

If anyone knows a good rheumy in Cincinnati, then I would love to hear
it since I probably cannot keep going to Cleveland clinic year after
year.  After the troubles I had with my docs, my General Practictioner
recommended Dr. Mangey, but I have previouly gone to another doctor in
the same the practice she works, and they do not allow people to
transfer between doctors within the practice.  I think that's a shoddy
policy since different doctors mesh with different people, but what can
I do?

Anyway, thanks for your comments on CC...I'm looking forward to going.

Hey there

What part of Ohio is West Chester?  All us ohio natives need to meet, think
so??

I live near Lima ohio.  Where are you or anyone else near?

West Chester is Southwest Ohio...just north of Cincinnati on I-75.
It's pretty close to where I work and live...I live in a northern
suburb of Cincinnati off I-71.  Dayton could be a nice meeting spot if
you live in Lima...that's about a 40-45 minute drive from my
neighborhood.  I don't get up that way very often, so if you have ideas
or suggestions I'm open...

Hi Connie, I live in Akron & went to every rheumy here; I understand
Michelle is having a problem at Cleveland Clinic also. I found help with Dr.
Ali Askari at Cleveland University Hosp. Good luck!

I haven't been to Cleveland Clinic yet...I was having problems with
doctors in Cincinnati.  I will have my first appointment in Cleveland
at the end of November, and hopefully that will go well.  If not, I
will use your referral.  :-)  Thanks!
