As you know, I've been having water retention problems.... pain management doctor blew it off, saying it was the opioids. I wasn't satisfied w/this answer. Said no diuretic would be rx'd until water was weeping from my pores. HOLY COW! See my primary doc and he's not happy. He's limited my sodium intake to 2000mg/day, put me on a diuretic and we're waiting for blood work. Happy happy joy joy. Let you know what I find out Nicole Good monrning Nicole, I have this problem also. My legs and feet got so big that they hurt and I could only wear sneakers without laces and large sweat pants. MY rhumy put me on Furosimite at 40mg immediately and it did not work very well so my Kidney doc put me on 80-120mg and that finally took off the water weight. I lost 28lbs from diaretics alone in the last two months. I would not be happy if my doc had told me he was going to wait until the water is coming out of my pores before he would do something. The pain in the legs is bad enough let alone the self esteem issues. I hope you get what you need and feel better soon. Remeber it is your body not theirs and you have a right to demand treatment, sometimes being an educated PITA is just what the doctors need :) -Steve Good monrning Nicole, I have this problem also. I just went through all that too, well last xmass but it has lasted till now; and still i am on the diuretic and 3 cardiac pills... it wasn't a fun episode and my bp was zooming along with tachycardia going on and very short of breath.... it may not be your heart... but it may be your renal system and that is just as crucial ... and if not that then it just may be meds and joints from the illness you are living with... regardless it should be treated!!... all that fluid.. (I had over 12 pounds and more come off with the pills and I still have about 7 pounds to go by the looks of it!)... my cardiac function is much better since seeing the specialist, undergoing all his testing and onto the new meds and I am not short of breath now.. BUT i am still on the diuretic with a watchful PCP on my bp and my retention as well as lab values like sodium and all... i am also on a sodium restrictive diet and h2O restricted intake! these things do matter and you must know that it isn't gonna come seeping out your pores? bad joke by the doc! not even funny!! CHF is not a joke and nor are renal issues of any type!!! BTDT on all counts!! My pcp ran a bunch of blood work, gave me a diuretic and is seeing me next week. He said the average person consumes over 7000 grams of sodium/day... so limiting it, will help since sodium causes water retention despite what's going on. Even if it's heart or kidney, sodium still needs to be limited in most cases. I have low to average blood pressure right now. On meds (for years now for the tachycardia). I know I don't have CHF. Have no symptoms (but have had 2 dogs w/it and the symptoms and meds are the same) Actually, did you know the fluid really will seep out your pores? Pain doc said there's been many patients in this month with oozing. Eww. He really pissed me off tho acting like my "minor" swelling wasn't a big deal despite the pain it was causes (considering it causes pain itself then causes the joints to hurt more). I do appreciate the concern and understand where you're coming from.... if I'm not satisfied w/my next appt, I will find someone else. I'll be happy when my clothes fit again.... do you know how depressing it is when your "fat" clothes don't fit????
