My pain doctor who's a family physician is changing his practice.
He now has 2600 patients and has decided to drop all but 1200.  PLUS, he's
becoming a "concierge" doctor.  To be his patient, I have to pay
1500$/annually plus use my insurance.  There are perks to belonging to this
type of practice but the money side isn't one of 'em.

I'm SO tired of spending money on health related issues.  It gets so old.

OMG! I've never heard of such a practice. I do hope it is not the trend in
medical care. It's hard enough to find a good doctor as it is.

What are you going to do?

Oh but it is a trend.  You can google concierge doctor and get a  ton of
hits.
I'm going to pay it.  Not much of a choice.

Wow...Nicole...I can't imagine...Here I am worried that my Rheumy might
retire sometime in the future...
I don't know what I would do without him...But I never heard of this
before...I would just be SOL...

Yes money can definitely be an issue with medical care but IMHO?
you just can't afford NOT to pay it and then to be able to stay with him what with the problems you have and that he knows so well and more importantly treats so well according to your posts!
I have been there already, now almost 5 years ago, losing my family doctor to retirement and relocation across the world to his 'homeland' and
what a hole it left in mine and my family's lives!!
If I could have paid the money to keep him working and local I would have!!
Unfortunately it wasn't  possible and yet with the current doctor I have, finally lucked onto a wonderful woman doctor who hails from the province of Ontario, who came to BC cause her husband retired and now she works just part time (which is just great for the amount i see her) here in the small community I live in on this island of ours....well back to the point, if she required money for me to be a part of her practice I would pay it just to have the peace of mind and knowledge that she is there and she knows her stuff re lupus and me.... so worth it IMO!!!
hugs,
from Shelagh.... just my 2 cents worth...

Exactly!
I already have a PPO insurance but while our premiums are going up,
reimbursments to the doctors are going down.
This doctor tries to prevent you from getting a disease rather than just
treating you once you get a disease.
He's so knowledgable and honestly, I couldn't get care like this elsewhere.
One perk, he'll be on call 24hrs/day.  This will be awesome.....
I'm trying to set up a FSA account to try and save some tax money....
hopefully, the state (dh's employer) won't be a pain.
