You  are not writen which cough you has.So as for every kind a cough is
having individual recipe.
For example in continuous pectoral cough is recommending   rub breast a
dry woolen fabric, and after rub in melted butter ,which you can mix
with pine or any coniferous oil.Try also take "grain"cofee:take rye
seeds, oats,or pearl add chicory and cleaning but a dont roasted bitter
almond.Grind all grains ,like cofee and cook in cofee-mashine.Take a
such drink with sugar or milk-like you are drink a usual coffee.
If your cough and scratching in throat, causing a cold-better to take a
following remedy:boil freshsqueezing turnip juice  with sugar or
honey/last-better/and drink,like hot before sleep.Or cut on a small
pieces 10 onions  and 1 head garlik and boil in milk and cook to the
soft kind garlik and onion. After add mint decoction, cammomile and
honey. And use 1 tbl.sp.every hour duration all day.
Or mix carrot juice with milk and add honey.drink 1 tbl.sp.6 times/day.
or mix 2 tbl.sp.fresh butter oil,2 yolk a fresh eggs,1 tea sp.wheat
flour and 2 tea sp.clean honey.receiving "pudding" eat a tea spoon.
A good helps from cough birch or maple juice with milk.or  take syrup

I've never heard of any of the remedies you're talking about, but
whiskey always works here in Texas.  Although I loathe and despise it,
sometimes it's the *only* thing that'll get rid of my cough.  I make a
hot toddy of it.  Sprite, honey, lemon, whiskey, warmed up in the
microwave.  I remember being 3 years old and them making me take hot
toddies, how traumatic.  At least I'm not a liquor drinker now!

stomach problems!!

Julia,
I understand your point.  I doubt if a few ounces of whiskey will cause
any damage, but if you do have the problems, there is an easy
solution...  Don't drink it!  Cough syrup has alcohol in it as well, so
you have to watch it there too. The doctor always gives me codeine, but
I'm already on it for pain so I never get a cough.  Or I haven't had
one since I've been on codeine.  hee hee hee

Back to the cough, I have a friend who has lupus and uses alot of
natural therapy, I'll give her a buzz and see what she has to say.  I
know she'll have lots of info.  She usually does the steam inhalation
over the hot pot of water with essential oils type thing.

Oh yeah, guiafenasin, I don't know the exact spelling, the brand name
is Mucinex, is excellent.  And it also is proven to help with
fibromyalgia symptoms, so it's a double threat.  It is available alone
or with an expectorant.  I don't know why I forgot about it, but it's
probably the best over the counter cough medicine out there.

I used to get bronchitis allot and the doctor  gave me this awful, thick
red medicine. I wish I could remember the name because even though it
tasted horrible,it did wonders on chest congestion.

I find the coniferous oil remedy fascinating...

When I was a kid the military doctors used to prescribe a cough medicine
that was the nastiest tasting stuff...we always called it GI Gin....but it
worked great.  But I don't know the name of the stuff it was a very light
color almost a pale green if I remember right.  It is terp???????.  Don't
even know if you can still get it.

Happy Easter!

Hugs,
Sherry
